The Kortz Center Heist is fully completable as a solo player, and you can clear the Elite Challenge on Hard Mode at the same time. This guide covers the exact setup, prep work, and finale route that makes the run consistent, including the one RNG factor that can make the Elite Challenge impossible before you even start and what to do about it.
The only genuinely difficult section is the laser room. Everything else comes down to following the route and staying patient.
Elite Challenge Requirements
The following are the Elite Challenge requirements:
Solo Elite Checklist
Requirement | Target |
|---|---|
Time Limit | Complete in under 17 mins |
Loot Bag Value Loss | Stay under GTA$15,000 |
Shooting Accuracy | Over 90% |
Buyer's Request List | Collect every listed item |
All four have to be met in the same run to complete the Elite Challenge.
Hard Mode is not the version you get on your first run, so there are a few things worth having sorted before you attempt this.
If you have never run the Kortz Center Heist before, start with our Kortz Center Heist hub, which covers the full structure of the job from start to finish.
You will also need to have completed the Scope Out phase, since the buyer's request list and target placement are both decided there. That single step determines whether the Elite Challenge is even possible for a solo player, which we cover in detail below.
If you are attempting the Elite Challenge for the first time, we would recommend clearing it on Normal difficulty first using our solo Elite Challenge guide. Normal mode has gentler laser patterns and more forgiving hacking windows, so it is the better place to learn the route before adding Hard Mode on top.
How to Unlock Hard Mode
Hard Mode is not available on your first run. You need to complete the Kortz Center Heist on Normal difficulty first, which is the default version the game gives you.
Once you finish that run, Raf will message you roughly 10 minutes later to let you know you can set the heist up again. Head to the planning board in your Art Studio immediately. Setting it up during this window puts you into Hard Mode.
If you leave it too long, around a full in-game day (48 minutes in real life time), the Hard Mode opportunity expires and the heist reverts to Normal. There is no way to force it back other than running Normal again and waiting for Raf's message.
Hard Mode vs Normal Mode
Hard Mode is not just a payout bump. It changes several mechanics that directly affect how you run the heist, so it is worth knowing exactly what changes before you attempt it.
Hard Mode vs Normal Mode: The Key Differences
Difference | Normal Mode | Hard Mode |
|---|---|---|
Laser room | Easy Laser Patterns | Tougher, faster patterns with more coverage |
Hacking minigames | Fewer repetitions | Extra repetitions |
Buyer's Request bonus | GTA$50,000 | GTA$100,000 |
Elite Challenge bonus | GTA$50,000 | GTA$100,000 |
Payout modifier | Standard | Roughly +10% on the primary standard |
Sewer and train tunnel escape | Available | Blocked |
Here are all the differences between the Normal and Hard Mode versions of the Kortz Center Heist.
Tougher Lasers & Hacking
The tougher lasers and multiple hacks are the main reason Hard Mode is harder to clear. The laser room uses more aggressive patterns, and the hacking minigames add extra repetitions. On Hard Mode the fingerprint clone hack runs three times and the vault door memory hack runs four times, which is why the AI Scramble tip helps so much.
Blocked Escape Routes
This is the one a lot of players get caught out by. On Hard Mode, the sewer and train tunnels are blocked during your escape from the police. That removes the most reliable way to lose a wanted level in GTA Online, so you have to shake the cops on the surface streets instead, which is exactly why the getaway section of this guide focuses on road detours rather than doubling back or ducking underground.
Higher Bonuses Across the Board
Both of the optional bonuses pay double on Hard Mode. Recovering all of the buyer's requested items awards GTA$100,000 on Hard compared to GTA$50,000 on Normal, and completing the Elite Challenge also pays GTA$100,000 instead of GTA$50,000. Combined with the roughly 10 percent bump to the primary target value, a clean Hard Mode run with both bonuses is a noticeable step up in take.
The Buyer's Request Issue
Before you commit to a Hard Mode run, you need to understand the buyer's request list, because this single RNG roll decides whether the Elite Challenge is even possible for a solo player.
One of the Elite Challenge requirements is looting every item on the buyer's request list. If any of those items spawn inside the Crisp Gallery on the upper floor of the Kortz Center, a solo player cannot reach them all. That layout requires two players.
When that happens, you have two options:
- Run it anyway. You still complete the heist and take the payout. You just forfeit the Elite Challenge for that run.
- Or you can cancel and reroll. Call Raf, cancel the heist, set it up again, and scope the targets fresh. You are hoping the buyer's request items land in the vault, on the ground floor, or on the upper floor outside the Crisp Gallery.
The problem with rerolling is that it costs GTA$100,000 every time, with no guarantee the next roll is any better. For most players it is not worth burning that money repeatedly. Run the heist without the Elite Challenge and try again on your next Hard Mode setup, unless you have cash to spare.
Setup
Once your buyer's request items are in accessible areas, you are ready to set up the heist.
Setup Overview
Setup Choice | Selection |
|---|---|
Infiltration Gear | Alpha Mail Disguise |
Weapon Loadout | Street Loadout |
Getaway Vehicle | Manchez |
Outfit | Alpha Mail Driver |
All the setup missions that you must complete for this run.
Infiltration Gear - Alpha Mail Disguise
Alpha Mail Disguise is the most direct route to the vault. The strategy here is to hit the vault first, then collect secondary targets on the way out.
Weapon Loadout - Street or Security
If you have the Armory extension in your Mansion, choose Street. During the finale you receive the street loadout plus a Pump Shotgun Mk II, which downs guards in one torso shot even when they are fully armoured. Body shots are also more forgiving than headshots for maintaining the accuracy requirement.
The Security loadout gives you a Marksman Rifle Mk II, which will not one-shot, and a stun gun, which will. The problem is that stun gun kills respawn guards once you have looted the vault, so you have to clear them again on the way out.
Street is also the fastest and easiest of the three weapon loadout missions, which makes it the better pick overall.
Getaway Vehicle - Manchez
The bike gives you the maneuverability you need for the off-road escape route. It is also placed in a very convenient spot for this route.
Then complete your mandatory Access Code and Hacking device equipment missions as normal.
Optional Prep Work
Here are the optional prep missions, you should do:
Recommended Optional Prep Work
Prep | Recommended | Reason |
|---|---|---|
Guard Shipments | Yes | Weakens guards, helps protects your accuracy rating for the elite challenge |
Guard Routes | Yes | Reveals all guard positions and field of visions |
Glass Cutter | Yes | Needed for secondary loot inside display cases |
Power Drills | Skip | Not required for this route |
EMP Charges | Skip | Not required for this route |
These are some of the important optional prep work missions, we'd say are a must-do.
Guard Shipments weakens the guards considerably, which feeds directly into the accuracy requirement for the Elite Challenge. Clean one-shot suppressed kills keep your accuracy high. If you are running Street with the Armory shotgun, you can technically skip this, but doing it removes risk.
Guard Routes is the single most valuable prep for this run. It shows every guard's position during the finale along with their field of vision, which makes navigating the Kortz Center much easier.
Glass Cutter is important because your bag will often still have space after collecting the buyer's request items. Several secondary items sit inside glass display cases and cannot be looted without it.
The Finale
Once you spawn in, take the van and head towards the Kortz Center. There is a zigzag road on the route that you can simply jump with the van rather than following.
As you approach, do not take the wide turn at the front. Cut across the grassy patch on the left side instead and drive straight up to the front entrance. This saves noticeable time.
From there, drive to the loading bay ramp to trigger the entry cutscene.
After the cutscene, grab the loading bay keycard from the side, open the main entrance to the basement, and head inside. Go into stealth stance and switch to your suppressed weapon.
Unlike the staff entrance route, which puts you on the elevator side, Alpha Mail brings you in from the opposite end at the loading bay.
Work through the basement in this order:
- Take out the leaning guard on your right as you turn the corner.
- Look through the window and drop the guard standing inside. These windows are not bulletproof, so you can shoot straight through them.
- Move forward and hold position. There is a guard at the end of the corridor and a second one beside him watching his direction. Wait for the corridor guard to walk away, then take out the guard in the hallway.
- Push forward immediately and take out the guard who was watching him.
- Turn around and clear any guard standing at the keypad.
- Return to the window and wait. A guard will exit the server control room. Take him out once he is clear.
There are three entrances to the CCTV server room, but only one is hackable on any given run. Look for the entrance with a green light on the keypad.
This is the fingerprint clone minigame, the same one used in the Cayo Perico Heist. You match the four square grid fingerprints on the left with their counterparts on the right.
The fastest approach is to identify the most obvious matches first, then work through the remaining grids by comparing the top left, top right, bottom right, and centre sections of each pattern.
On Hard Mode you complete this three times.
Once inside, use the computer outside the security control room, not the one inside it, and disable the CCTV cameras.
When you entered the server room, Raf will have sent you an access code by text. Head into the server control room, use the computer in there, and input that code to unlock the security door to the laser room.
Exit the server room and approach the door to trigger the next cutscene.
The laser room has six total layouts, three on Normal and a harder version of each on Hard Mode. The specific layout you get is random, so the exact movements will vary, but the principles are the same.
Disable the switches one at a time rather than trying to rush to the second switch directly. It is slower but far more reliable.
Wait until no lasers are travelling towards you and you have a clear path, then move in and interact with the switch.
Watch the vertical lasers running down the far left and far right of the room. These travel the full length and will catch you out. Once they clear from the sides, a section in the middle also fills with them, so do not assume the centre is safe. Wait for the horizontal laser at the bottom to clear, then move straight to the switch.
Move back towards the centre of the room and wait for the vertical lasers to pass. A set of three lasers will then come towards you that require crouching to pass under. Do not crouch early, as this wastes time. Wait for them to clear, move forward, and crouch again if another set comes. Then find your opening and hit the last switch.
Disabling all three means you will not have to clear the room again on your way out of the vault.
Now, you need to hack the vault door. The vault door keypad is a memory minigame. You watch a pattern of nodes light up, then repeat it back.
On Hard Mode you complete this four times, and you have five access attempts total. Each failed attempt uses one.
The key tool here is the AI Scramble option at the bottom of the screen, which replays the pattern. Memorise the first three nodes, then use AI Scramble to refresh the pattern before completing the rest. Used properly, this makes the minigame close to failure-proof.
Once the door opens, go straight to your primary target and complete the short minigame to remove it.
Watch the vault thermal sensor in the bottom right of your screen. This detects your presence in the vault, so speed matters here.
Do not collect secondary targets from inside the vault. Your bag capacity is limited, and filling it here risks leaving no room for buyer's request items in the exhibition centre, which would cost you the Elite Challenge.
Head back to the CCTV server room and interact with the computer twice:
- Wipe the vault CCTV footage for additional cash.
- Disable the CCTV cameras again to give yourself a clean window.
Then go through the door to the left, turn right, and straight down the corridor, turn left, and straight down to the elevator.
The elevator keypad uses a timing minigame. Hit the prompt when the highlighted block passes through the middle of the red line.
Head to the ground floor first, since this is where you disable the glass display case alarm. Go to the ground floor regardless of whether you have your buyer's request items on the upper floor or the ground floor.
Exit through the double doors and head left. There is a guard by the tiger statue. Take him out and watch the ground for a dropped key.
That key is the exhibition room exit key, and you cannot leave the exhibition centre without it. It can be dropped randomly by any guard in the exhibition room area, not just this one, so check the ground after every kill until you have it.
After that take out the guard by the black Greek statue, but not while standing near the horizontally moving camera on the right.
Take out the guard leaning against the rail. Shoot him from the side rather than head-on, otherwise he can fall off the rail and be detected by the camera below.
Head down the stairs and take out the guard behind the security desk. You can take him out halfway through the staircase.
Jump off the stairs on the right side and disable the alarm.

With the alarm down, you can stat collecting your buyer's request items.
Head up the exhibition stairs in stealth rather than sprinting, as there are two guards waiting at the top. Take them both out.
Depending on your secondary placement, you may need to go through the double doors on the right, which is different from the our Normal mode route since we didn't have any of our buyer's request item through the double doors here.
There is another guard behind those doors. Again, shoot from an angle that will not send him through the window, since breaking the glass can drop him into camera view.
Once your buyer's request items are secured, use any remaining bag capacity on other secondary targets. There is an additional guard along the upper floor who is always present, so clear him and wait for the camera to rotate away before looting.
Be aware of the horizontally moving camera if you jump down between floors rather than using the stairs.
Head down to the lower floor where the security desk was and interact with the exit door. This is where the exit key becomes essential. You will get a cutscene showing NOOSE arriving at the Kortz Center.
Once outside, take out the guard directly in front of you and stick close to the wall to avoid the camera above on the right.
Go straight and jump over the ledge. Peek around the corner before advancing, as a guard sometimes spawns here.
Get on your Manchez and you're ready to escape.
Stay off-road on the way out and keep clear of the police helicopter's field of vision.
For losing the cops, do not try to hide or double back. Head directly towards the lockup drop-off point and watch your minimap. If police are on the road ahead, take a parallel road while continuing in the same general direction. Moving away from the drop-off costs you time and can cost you the Elite Challenge.
Once you shake them, drive straight to the drop-off to complete the heist.
For everything else on this job, including payouts, target values, and the full prep breakdowns, head over to our Kortz Center Heist hub, where we have collected every guide we have published on it.
And if Hard Mode is not what you are after right now, our Normal difficulty solo Elite Challenge guide walks through the entire run using the Staff Entrance approach instead, which brings you into the basement from the elevator side and plays quite differently to the Alpha Mail route covered here. It is also the better starting point if you are learning the layout for the first time, since the laser patterns and hacking windows are far more forgiving.
