The Sewer entrance is one of the most rewarding ways to run the Kortz Center Heist solo on Hard Mode, and with a clean run it can be finished in under 15 minutes while completing the Elite Challenge. The route itself is straightforward, but there is a lot of room to lose time early on, and this run also happened to land the single hardest laser room variant in the game, which we will walk through in full.
The one section that catches everyone out on this variant is a bottom horizontal laser that runs the entire length of the room, which forces a jump. GTA 5's jump mechanics are not built for this, so we cover the exact trick that makes those jumps consistent.
The Elite Challenge Requirements
To earn the Elite Challenge bonus, you have to meet all four conditions in the same run.
The Elite Challenge Requirements
Requirement | Condition |
|---|---|
Time | Finish in under 17 minutes |
Loot value | Lose less than GTA$15,000 in loot value |
Accuracy | Finish with over 90% shooting accuracy |
Buyer's Request | Collect every item on the buyer's request list |
The four Elite Challenge conditions, all of which must be met in a single run.
On Hard Mode, both the buyer's request bonus and the Elite Challenge bonus pay GTA$100,000 each, which is double what they pay on Normal.
The Buyer's Request Problem
Before committing to an Elite Challenge run, you need to understand the buyer's request list, because it is decided by RNG during scope out and it can make a solo Elite Challenge impossible.
One of the Elite Challenge requirements is looting every item on the buyer's request list. If any of those items spawn inside the Crisp Gallery on the upper floor of the exhibition room, a solo player cannot reach them. That gallery requires two players, since one has to hold the shutter door open while the other loots. As long as your requested items land anywhere else, you are good to go solo.
You can either continue with the heist and complete without Elite challenge completion, or cancel the heist by calling Raf and set up the heist again which costs $100k.
Setup
Setup
Setup Choice | Selection |
|---|---|
Entry Point | Sewer (manhole) |
Infiltration Gear | Hazmat Suit |
Weapon Loadout | Street (if Armory purchased) / Security (+ Guard Shipments Prep Mission) |
Getaway Vehicle | Manchez |
The recommended setup choices for the Sewer approach.
Entry Point
To unlock the Sewer entry point, head to the maze by the Kortz Center parking lot during scope out, go to the centre, and photograph the manhole. Send it to Raf and it registers as a scoped entry point.
The Manhole Key
This is the part people miss. You also need to find the manhole key, because without it you cannot open the manhole. You can grab it during the finale, but that costs you significant time. There are five possible spawn locations around the Kortz Center and it is random every run, so it is worth learning all five. We have mapped out every one of them in our Kortz Center Scope Out guide, so check that if you want to know exactly where to look.
Infiltration Gear
The Hazmat Suit infiltration gear is required for the Sewer route. During the Hazmat Suit prep, there is an important extra step. Before stealing the suit, go to the camera icon on the map and steal the sewer tunnel blueprints. With the blueprints, Raf will tell you exactly which tunnels to take to reach the ladder up to the maintenance room, which saves a lot of time underground.
Also, turn on subtitles from the settings. Raf calls out the tunnel directions once, and they are easy to forget. Subtitles let you read and memorize the route. The tunnel path is randomized each run. You can review the directions in the dialogue log if you miss them, but that wastes time, so subtitles are the better solution.
Weapon Loadout
If you have the Armory extension in your Mansion, choose Street. During the finale you get the street loadout plus a Pump Shotgun Mk II, which downs fully armoured guards in a single torso shot, ideal for protecting your Elite Challenge accuracy.
The Security loadout gives you a Marksman Rifle Mk II, which will not one-shot, and a stun gun, which will. The catch is that stun gun kills respawn guards once you have looted the vault, so you clear them again on the way out. Security also includes a suppressed pistol, but if you rely on that you will need to complete the Guard Shipments prep so the guards are not wearing helmets, otherwise you cannot one-shot them with a headshot.
Getaway Vehicle
The bike is the best for escaping the cops and the Kortz Center after the heist. The bike gives you the maneuverability you need for the off-road escape.
Then complete your Access Code and Hacking Device equipment missions as normal.
Optional Prep Work
Optional Prep Work
Prep | Recommended | Why |
|---|---|---|
Guard Shipments | Yes | Weakens guards, protects your accuracy rating, removes their helmet for easier headshots |
Guard Routes | Yes | Reveals all guard positions and fields of vision |
Glass Cutter | Situational | Only needed if a requested item is in a vertical glass display case |
Power Drills | Skip | Not required for this route |
EMP Charges | Skip | Not required for this route |
Which optional preps to prioritize for a solo Sewer Hard Mode run.
Guard Shipments and Guard Routes are the two to prioritize. Guard Shipments is especially important if you chose the Security loadout, since it removes guard helmets and lets your suppressed pistol land one-shot headshots. Guard Routes shows every guard's position and field of vision.
Glass Cutter is situational. You only need it if one of your buyer's request items is inside a vertical glass display case. Otherwise skip it, along with Power Drills and EMP Charges.
The Finale Walkthrough
The Drive
When the heist starts, grab a bike to reach the Kortz Center. Any bike works, though a fast one like an upgraded Hakuchou Drag helps. Jump the small cliff to skip the turn and land on the main road, then keep driving towards the Kortz Center.
As you pass the toll, go left onto the grassy mountain and come around the left side of the building. Do not get too close to the boundary, as the sound of your vehicle alerts the guards. A good rule of thumb is if you cannot see the guards on your minimap, you are fine. If you can see them, stay away from the boundary. Park on the left side of the Kortz Center and run up to the maze.
Navigating the Maze
Run up to the maze and find the second light post. It has a tree beside it, and the two line up with the satellite dish in the distance. That light post is your entry point. Jump the hedge into the maze.
From there, skip the first left and take the second left.
Go straight and turn right.
Then keep going horizontally until you cannot anymore and take the opening on your left.
The manhole is there.
The Sewer Tunnels
With the blueprints, Raf tells you the route using a number and letter for each room and tunnel. For example, "2B" means once you are in room or opening 2, take tunnel B. Each tunnel opening has its letter written above it.
Follow Raf's directions and you will reach the ladder up to the maintenance room. In the final room, the small tunnel leading up is hard to miss.
Once in the maintenance room, interact with the trash bin by the door to change your outfit. Now you are ready to clear the basement.
The Basement
After that, go into stealth stance and exit the maintenance room. First, take out the guard on your left, then the second guard just ahead of him leaning on the wall. Note that sometimes a guard sits to your right inside the field of vision of the corridor guard. If so, go straight after clearing the left side and approach from the left.
Look through the window into the CCTV server room and take out the guard inside. The glass is not bulletproof.
There is a guard at the end of the corridor being watched by another guard. Wait for the watcher to move, take out the corridor guard, then quickly move up and take out the watcher.
Turn around and take out the guard at the keypad. This is the same guard that sometimes appears on your right on exit.
Wait for the guard inside the Security Control Room to step out on the right, and take him out through the window.
Once you're done clearing the basement, you need to enter the CCTV Server Room. One of the three server room keypads will be lit green. That is the one you can hack. Match the fingerprint pattern on the right by selecting the four square grids on the left. On Hard Mode you complete this three times.
Once hacked, use the computer to disable the CCTV cameras, then enter the Security Control Room and input the access code Raf sent you to open the security door to the laser room.
The Hardest Laser Room (Hard Mode)
This is the Hard Mode version of the hardest Normal variant, and the key difference is a bottom horizontal laser that runs the full length of the room. That means you will have to jump at some point, no matter what.
However, the one jump trick we will show you makes things much easier. GTA 5's jump mechanics are clunky and buggy for the laser room. The reliable fix is to jump sideways while facing left. Your character's right foot lifts first, then the left, so if you face right and jump you will clip the bottom laser and get detected.
Facing left keeps your body clear. Getting the turn timed right takes a little practice, but it becomes consistent quickly.
Now, for the entire laser room and how to pass through it. Go to the left side of the room. Wait for the bottom laser to disappear, then wait for an opening between the vertical lasers, run to the switch, disable it, and run back out.
After that, hug the right wall and move forward, but do not pass the two vertical lasers ahead. Ignore claims of a guaranteed safe zone on the far right, as the lasers can still catch you there.
Three horizontal lasers will approach and vanish where the second section ends, but the bottom laser keeps coming across the whole room.
Face left, wait for the bottom laser, and jump as it nears.
As you land, move quickly to the second switch, as the horizontal lasers return fast. If you have already started the switch interaction, the lasers appearing during the animation will not detect you and the switch still disables.
Wait for the main middle laser to pass, then move through the opening in the vertically swinging lasers and stand in the middle, facing left.
Jump the next bottom laser, then run through the opening on your left. You will have time before the next set of vertical lasers. Hit the final switch to disable the section.
The Vault
Now you need to hack the vault door. The vault door hack is a memory minigame. Watch the pattern the nodes light up in, then repeat the final pattern back.
Memorise the first few nodes, then use AI Scramble to replay the pattern before finishing the rest. On Hard Mode you complete this four times, and the full six-by-five grid is used for the pattern, so there is more to track than on Normal.
Once the Vault door opens, go straight to the primary target and loot it. Watch the vault thermal sensor progress bar in the bottom right of the screen. It detects your presence, so loot and leave before it fills or it triggers the alarm. If one of your buyer's request items is inside the vault, grab it while you are here.
Once looted, return to the CCTV server room, interact with the same computer to wipe the CCTV footage for extra cash, and disable the cameras.
Returning Upstairs
After that, exit through the door on your left, turn right, go down the corridor, turn left, and head to the elevator at the end.
Hack the elevator keypad by hitting the prompt when the highlighted white block passes through the red line in the middle. Once hacked, ride it up to the ground floor.
Regardless of where your remaining items are, you always go to the ground floor first, since that is where you disable the cabinet security alarm before looting.
Exhibition Room
When you reach the ground floor, go through the double doors and look left. Take out the guard by the tiger statue, and watch the ground for the exhibition room exit key. Any guard in the area can drop it, and you need it to escape, so check after each kill.

Look right and take out the next guard once he settles into position. He sometimes drifts right into the moving camera's field of vision, so time it carefully. Take him out when he is in the position shown in the image below.
Take out the guard leaning on the rail from the side, not head-on, or he can drop over the rail into the camera below.
Head down the stairs, take out the guard behind the security desk about halfway down, then jump off and disable the cabinet alarm.
Once the alarm has been disabled, you can start collecting your buyer's request item and any secondary loot needed to fill your bag.
If an item is on the upper floor, head up in stealth, aiming down sights to move slightly faster.
Take out the two guards at the top, plus the one leaning on the rail at the end of the balcony. You can run through cameras as long as you do not linger. Fill any remaining bag space with additional loot.
Escaping
Head back downstairs. You can jump down to save time, but be extremely careful of the camera, as dropping into its field of vision ends the run. Return to the door by the security desk and exit.
Once you're outside, take out the guard ahead of you. There is a camera on your right, so stick close to the right wall, run to the ledge, and jump down.
Drop into stealth and aim down sights around the corner, as a guard sometimes watches the Manchez. If clear, get on the bike.
Head off-road directly ahead, staying out of the police fields of vision, especially the helicopters. Once past the helicopter, get on the road towards the drop-off. Do not try to hide, as you lose the cops automatically. Just avoid driving into them, watch your minimap, and take a detour if they move into your path.
Once you have shaken them, drive to the drop-off as fast as possible to complete the heist.
