TL;DR Summary

A complete Kortz Center scope out unlocks all four entry points, every optional prep mission, and the maximum secondary payout. Most players are missing several without realising it. Here's exactly what to photograph, which camera angles to pan to, and the hidden points of interest the game never tells you about.

The scope out is the single most important stage of the Kortz Center Heist. Everything you unlock here decides how much you can steal, which entry points you can use, and which prep missions become available to you.

If you rush it, and there is a chance that you might walk into the finale with one entry point, a short list of secondary targets, and a smaller payout. But if you do it properly, you will have every option in the game open to you before you have even started the prep work.

This guide covers the full scope out from start to finish, including the hidden scope out points that are easy to walk straight past.

Why a Complete Scope Out Is Important

The scope out is just as important as it was in the Diamond Casino and the Cayo Perico heists as it feeds three separate things:

  • Entry points. There are four entry points. The game only guides you to one of them. The other three have to be found manually.
  • Optional prep missions. These are unlocked by photographing specific details, not by completing anything.
  • Secondary targets. Every display case and small painting you photograph adds to your potential take. Any large statue, item not inside a reinforced glass display, and large paintings do not count as secondary targets.

The Security Room

When you arrive at the Kortz Center, your first objective is to sneak into the security room.

The game gives a disclaimer that if you're caught, you will be thrown out of the exhibition. This sounds a lot harsher than it is. You get several attempts, and even if you are caught once or twice you can simply walk back into the museum and try again.

The game directs you to the security room, but make sure you are outside the cone of vision of the CCTV cameras. When the camera is white, it means you can be seen on the camera, but the moment it turns red, avoid the cone of vision at all times. They turn red when you enter a restricted area such as the security room.

Once inside, wait for the CCTV camera to pan away, enter the room, knock out the security guard, and upload your AI to the computer system. This gives you access to the CCTV network.

CCTV Camera

When cycling through the CCTV camera feed, make sure that on every single camera, you pan as far as left and right as the view allows. Most additional secondary targets and points of interest sit at the very edges of each camera's range, outside the default view you are dropped into.

This is important because it then allows you to scope some additional entry points which we will get to below. But remember, the cameras do not unlock entry points directly. What they do is flag points of interest, and those points of interest are what allow you to go out and physically photograph the corresponding entrance later.

For example, the loading bay. When you pan the loading bay camera fully to the right, you will spot the delivery truck. This will then be registered as a point of interest. Now, you can head out to the parking area and photograph the garage doors to actually scope the entrance.

Consider the CCTV camera as the prerequisite. The entry points themselves are scoped outside, on foot. Here is what each camera gives you:

Camera Feed

Camera

What It Reveals

Vault

The primary target, the security deposit boxes, and additional secondary target paintings.

Loading Bay

Pan fully right to spot the delivery truck, marking the loading bay as a point of interest.

Maintenance Room

Marks the sewer system as a point of interest.

Exhibit - Level 3

Pan all the way to the right to mark the skylight as a point of interest.

Exhibit - Level 2

It is just a hallway room on the second floor of the exhibition. In case you missed the painting here on foot, you can scope it using the CCTV feed.

Exhibit - Level 2 Room

This exclusive room found through the Exhibit Level 2 camera requires two players to access during the heist.

If you are running the Kortz Center solo, you cannot get into it. The secondary targets inside are off the table for you, and that is worth knowing before you start counting your expected payout. It is one of the few places where running with a crew directly increases what you can physically carry out of the building.

Scope it anyway. If you ever run the heist with a partner, it is already on your board.

Only issue solo is that if one of the buyer's list item is inside the room, you won't be able to get it. So you need to get lucky for the buyer's items to all be outside of that room. We have covered more about the buyer's list below.

Exhibit Level 2 and the room only accessible with more than one player during the heist.

Secondary Targets

Once you're done with the security room, head out onto the gallery floor and here you can start photographing all the secondary targets.

To identify the secondary target, look for:

  • Anything inside a reinforced glass display case.
  • Small Paintings.

As mentioned earlier, you can ignore the large paintings and statues. They will not be registered as targets. You have three floors where the secondary targets are located. Bottom floor, middle floor, and the top floor.

Remember to photograph each item individually. Some of the display cases are directly beside each other, and if you frame two in a single photo, the game only registers for one of them. So to save time and trying to recapture the secondary targets, make sure to capture them individually from the get go.

Buyer's Request List

Raf texts you a list of items the buyer specifically wants. These appear with a gold money icon rather than the standard white one, so they are easy to pick out once you know to look for them.

The list is randomised on every run, so the items you are asked for will not be the same as anyone else's. Grabbing the items on the buyer's list earns you an additional cash reward on top of their normal value, so they are worth prioritizing.

Important: Because the list is random, an item on it can end up inside the two player exclusive room. If you are running solo, you cannot get into that room, which means you cannot complete the buyer's list on that run and you lose out on the bonus.

Hidden Scope Out Points

There are two hidden scope out points that aren't signposted for you, and they unlock two optional prep missions. They are as follows:

The Radio Tower

You can photograph the radio tower on the northern end of the Bell Building and send it to Raf to unlock the optional prep mission called Guard Routes. Completing the Guard Routes prep mission will allow you to see the positions of all the guards during the heist.

Electrical Box

There is an electrical box one level down from the roof, tucked between the air conditioning vents in the middle of the Bell Building. Photograph it and send it to Raf to unlock the EMP Charges optional prep mission. Completing this prep mission will allow you to disable lights, security and cameras. It will also unlock an additional staircase connecting the exhibition and the basement.

All Entry Points

The entry points are scoped outside, on foot, and only after you have flagged the matching points of interest on the CCTV cameras. If you skipped a camera, the corresponding entrance will not be available to photograph.

Here are all the entry points you can capture around the Kortz Center:

Staff Entrance

This is the easiest one, and the game directs you to it as soon as you arrive at the Kortz Center during the scope out mission. Simply take a picture of the Staff Entrance and it will be added as an entry point.

Secondary Targets Value

Secondary target values are not fixed. They vary between runs, and the paintings rotate weekly.

On a complete scope out you can expect a secondary total somewhere in the region of GTA$2.3 million to GTA$2.6 million. If your number falls inside that range, your scope out is in good shape. If it comes in well below it, you have missed items, and the most likely culprits are display cases you photographed in pairs or camera angles you never panned to the edge of.

The scope out is only the first stage. From here you have prep missions to run, an entry point to commit to, and a finale to plan around it. Our Kortz Center Heist hub covers all of it, from the Art Studio requirements to the full payout breakdown.
