We are roughly four months out from launch with pre-orders live for roughly a month. The cover art is out with around 60 screenshots already available. The prices are set in every major market, and Take-Two Interactive has tied its entire financial year to the November 19 date. Yet, Rockstar Games hasn't sat anyone down and shown them gameplay footage of Grand Theft Auto VI.
To be fair though, we've gotten in-game in-engine footage. Sony confirmed that the second trailer was captured entirely on a PlayStation 5, split roughly evenly between cutscenes and moments you'll play through yourself in Vice City and Leonida. It was a deliberate answer to everyone who assumed the first trailer was carefully curated moments the finished game would never match. However, this close to the game's launch, it's only natural for people to want to see an actual gameplay demonstration.
Everyone's itching to play the next Grand Theft Auto, setting pre-order records that we'll get to know more about in a couple of weeks, and we still have no heads-up display, no player visibly controlling a character, no mission structure, no menus, no systems, and none of the unglamorous furniture that tells you how a game actually plays rather than hot it looks.
In-engine footage is one thing. It proves the graphics are real. A gameplay reveal answers how smooth the game feels and plays. We have had the first already. We haven't had the second yet.

Every major Grand Theft Auto VI question, split by what Rockstar Games has actually confirmed and what remains unconfirmed.
Even the online mode for GTA 6 is an unknown. Rockstar hasn't confirmed a format, a business model, or a launch date. It has not confirmed if the mode will arrive at launch at all. History suggests it won't, but how long will have to wait for it? More importantly, what's the maximum player count? We know from court documents connected to the 2022 leak case it's 32, but this isn't a confirmed figure.
Next, the map. We know the setting. We don't know the size. very figure circulating, and there are many, traces back to leaked material, fan mapping projects or someone measuring a trailer frame. None are official.
As for the PC release, we know there's no PC version at launch and no announced date for one. It's understood that it's coming later based on how previous Rockstar releases have gone, and a former Rockstar producer has offered a plausible explanation for the console-first approach. The arrangement with Sony Interactive Entertainment is a reason to expect a more deliberate wait, especially if the PlayStation 6 is released next year.
We also don't know much about the story and the characters, which is probably intention. Jason and Lucia are confirmed as the leads. Will we get a third or even fourth playable character? Can we switch between them the way we switched between Michael de Santa, Trevor Philips, and Franklin Clinton in Grand Theft Auto V in Los Santos? What's the dynamic like if we're playing as Lucia or Jason? Will we see the other walking around somewhere else?
The game could handle two leads a dozen different ways. Beyond the pair, the supporting roster is almost entirely unnamed.
Finally, there's also nothing at all on modding or any creator platform, which for a series whose community has spent two decades building things inside these games is a meaningful silence rather than an oversight.

With that said, GTA 6 doesn't need more content to convert people who haven't decided yet. Anything else outside of what we've gotten is a blessing that Rockstar will choose to give us. They don't need to sell the game any more, as much as Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has told us about the game's compressed marketing timeline. We've already bought whatever Rockstar is selling based on what we know they have brought to the table.
Besides, showing gameplay gameplay carries real downside for a company in this position. The moment actual footage exists, every frame gets compared to the trailers, dissected for downgrades, and turned into a week of arguments about frame rate and pop-in. Rockstar gains almost nothing and risks a fortnight of bad discourse.
We are not saying that is admirable, and we are not saying it is sinister. The silence is a marketing decision made by people who correctly understand that they hold all the leverage.
On Trailer 3 itself, a gameplay reveal somewhere in the late August to early September range makes sense. TTWO's earnings call on August 7 is an obvious platform if the company wants one sooner, but a marketing beat and an earnings call are different things and they do not have to coincide.
The thing worth remembering as these blanks get filled is that they get filled either way. Rockstar can answer these questions itself, or the vacuum gets filled by leaks, datamining, court documents and confident guesses that eventually become a reality.
