History

The second trailer arrived nearly two years after the first trailer debuted in December 2023. That first reveal accumulated nearly 200 million YouTube views within 72 hours after being leaked ahead of its scheduled premiere. Its reach and the long gap between trailers left the follow-up facing extraordinary attention before anyone had seen it.

Rockstar released Trailer 2 without a countdown or advance premiere notice, four days after announcing a delay to GTA VI. The timing replaced several days of delay-focused coverage with the first substantial new look at the game since 2023. Official character and location material accompanied the surprise launch.

Structure

The trailer moves between Jason and Lucia's home life, robberies, gunfights, nightlife, boats and long drives through Vice City and the wider state. It introduces key locations beyond the city and gives other characters far more room than the first trailer. The supporting cast includes Jason's landlord Brian Heder, his friend Cal Hampton, nightclub owner Boobie Ike and musician Dre'Quan Priest.

Jason collects Lucia after her release from prison, and the pair share a home before a series of jobs pulls them deeper into trouble. Unlike the first trailer's broad sweep of social media clips and overt references to real-world events, Trailer 2 stays close to their relationship. The trailer closes on the question that defines their partnership: trust.

There are still callbacks for longtime players. Jason wears a shirt resembling one worn by Tommy Vercetti in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. The trailer does not repeat the first trailer's much-discussed Florida Joker reference, but it contains smaller visual details and possible returning systems. Some visual details suggest that character customization may build on ideas used in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.

Production Details

Saturated sunsets, crowded clubs, convenience stores, swamps and highways give the trailer a wider visual range than the first reveal. The footage shifts between quiet domestic scenes and large outdoor action sequences without presenting a complete mission from start to finish. That makes it useful for identifying characters, locations and broad gameplay elements, but it is still an edited trailer rather than a continuous demonstration.
