Not known for shadow-dropping things, Rockstar Games' release of GTA 6 trailer 2 without any prior announcement caught the internet off-guard.

Rockstar Games definitely knows how to play with our emotions. Just days after breaking millions of hearts around the world by delaying Grand Theft Auto 6 to May 26, 2026, the developers randomly released the long-awaited second trailer for the game on a Tuesday - without any hints or leaks beforehand, making it all the more exciting.

Usually, Tuesdays are reserved for Red Dead Online announcements. So no one expected the second GTA 6 trailer to drop just as most of the United States was still preparing to go to work or on their way to the office (or just woke up if you're from the west coast).

As we've already mentioned, this is GTA 6's second trailer. The first trailer was released in December 2023 but it was leaked ahead of its official reveal.

Unlike the first trailer, which focused more on the much grander sandbox that we'll all be playing in next year, complete with scenarios inspired by real-life events, the second trailer gives us a glimpse of what the lives of the game's protagonists are going to look like. The trailer formally introduces us to the male protagonist, Jason, who is apparently well-known locally. Afterwards, it establishes the romantic relationship between Jason and Lucia, the female protagonist, who he picks up from prison.

The following series of shots in the trailer is then a blur of Lucia and Jason's life of crime. It's unclear if all these happened before Lucia spent time behind bars, or after it. Or both! Then again, based on the game's first official piece of artwork, it's possible Lucia immediately went back to her old habits after getting out.

Now that a new trailer for GTA 6 is here, it'll be interesting to see what else Rockstar and Take-Two have up their sleeves. Take Two CEO Strauss Zelnick is still set to talk to investors at the company's next earnings call on May 15. After that, all bets are off on when and what kind of GTA 6 -related information we'll be getting over the course of the next year. GTA 6 will bring players back to Vice City. This time, the Miami-inspired setting is only part of a much larger state, Leonida, and takes place in modern times.

Before the release of the second GTA 6 trailer, industry insider Jason Schreier revealed that the GTA 6 delay was known months beforehand but it was reportedly done to avoid subjecting the developers to crunch. While GTA 6 remains delayed, which could have potentially disastrous consequences for the rest of the gaming industry, releasing a second GTA 6 trailer this early suggests that Rockstar could have other content releases planned for next year.

Most GTA fans remain hopeful that this includes a remaster of Grand Theft Auto 4, a DLC with Michael De Santa for Grand Theft Auto Online , and a next-gen update for Red Dead Redemption 2.
