Many are under the impression that Take-Two are legally obligated to confirm GTA 6's release date on May 15.
It's official: Take-Two Interactive will hold its next earnings call, and possibly reveal the official release date of Grand Theft Auto 6, on May 15, lining up with the previous reports.
Grand Theft Auto fans have been going through a roller coaster of emotions since Rockstar Games unveiled the first GTA 6 trailer in December 2023. Despite breaking viewership records and sending fan expectations through the roof, Rockstar and Take-Two have maintained a frustrating challenge regarding the specific details about GTA 6.
Thankfully, this could all change on May 15.
This seemingly routine financial disclosure represents what many believe is a critical deadline for concrete information about a game that's been referred to as industry analysts, insiders, and executives as a "huge meteor" and an "iceberg."
The timing of this earnings call is particularly significant. Take-Two will be reporting on its past fiscal year while also providing guidance to investors about the upcoming fiscal year, the same period GTA 6 is expected to launch.
With only six months left to go before the year ends, Take-Two will have to provide specific details about GTA 6's release plans during this call. As the company enters the fiscal year where their flagship product is set to launch, they must provide investors with concrete information, whether that means confirming the Fall 2025 release window with a specific date or announcing an unfortunate delay.
However, Take-Two has successfully navigated previous earnings calls with minimal new information about GTA 6, so there's no reason why it couldn't do it again.
If anything, this is probably what Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick hinted at in a recent interview when he mentioned that they're adopting a different approach to marketing their upcoming games. True enough, the extensive marketing campaign for Mafia: The Old Country won't begin until May 8, three months before the game's official release. It's expected that Borderlands 4 , and of course, GTA 6, will follow the same marketing timeline.
The stakes for Take-Two and Rockstar couldn't be higher. GTA is one of the most valuable properties in all of entertainment media. Grand Theft Auto V and its standalone online counterpart, Grand Theft Auto Online, continue to sell millions of copies worldwide, topping sales charts every month despite their age.
But while GTA has remained front and center of mainstream media, fans remain desperate more GTA 6 news.
Fingers crossed, the May 15 earnings call will finally give all of us something more substantial.
For those who are interested, the earnings call will be accessible via phone or through a live webcast on Take-Two's investor relations website. While the call primarily targets investors and financial analysts, many others will undoubtedly be tuning in, hoping for even the smallest morsel of new information about _GTA 6.
