The developer says that GTA 6 may have a six-month delay until next spring.
Is Rockstar Games considering delaying Grand Theft Auto 6 out of its fall 2025 release window? If you ask Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick, the game is still on track for its original release date. However according to a second developer, a 2026 delay isn't impossible.
Months after former Rockstar North lead developer Obbe Vermeij mentioned that Rockstar can't say for sure when GTA 6 is coming out until May 2025, another developer, who may or may not be working on the upcoming two-billion dollar title, hinted that the developers aren't above pushing the game's release date back.
Previously, the same insider hinted that he is part of the GTA 6 development team. In an unrelated comment on Reddit, the user, who has since deleted their account (their posts remain visible as of the time of writing), detailed a series of events that was eerily similar to what happened with the initial GTA 6 trailer reveal. After the comment went viral, fans reported that the user is no longer on the social media platform. Fans still continued digging into their post history, and one of their comments shed light on Rockstar's potential plans.
In a reply to a post on the r/PS5 subreddit talking about the recent sales figures of Red Dead Redemption 2, the user mentioned that even if Rockstar won't confirm it just yet, GTA 6 could be delayed by up to six months until next spring. They add that, if this happens, Rockstar may release an update for Red Dead Redemption 2, which we can only presume is the much-demanded PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X patch.
While both comments are unfounded, the fact that the user is a legitimate individual with an extensive post history on Reddit who bothered to delete their account does suggest that the internet is on to something here.
Of course, the only people who can say for certain if GTA 6 is going to be delayed or not are developers at Rockstar. Former Microsoft and Activision Blizzard executive Mike Ybarra put it bluntly when he said that GTA 6 is king and Rockstar can announce the game's release date for whenever and no one can do anything about it.
With multiple billion dollars in revenue on the line, the pressure is definitely on Rockstar to deliver. Judging by how Grand Theft Auto Online continues to rake in profit for Rockstar and Take-Two, the company more than deserves the benefit of the doubt.
In the meantime, the PC version of Grand Theft Auto V: Expanded and Enhanced is finally coming out on March 4 and it's expected to arrive alongside a huge aviation-related content update. But if you prefer something more classic, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City is currently being ported to the Sega Dreamcast. Finally, while GTA 6 is still ways away, some insiders are already talking about Grand Theft Auto 7 .
