GTA 5 Enhanced on PC: Free Upgrade, Migration and Requirements

Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced has been available on PC since March 4, 2025. It is a free upgrade for existing PC owners, while new purchases include both GTA V Enhanced and the previous PC version, now called GTA V Legacy.¹

Enhanced is the version to use if your PC meets the requirements and you want Hao's Special Works, GTA+, Career Progress, animals, newer graphics features, and faster loading. GTA V Legacy remains available for older hardware, but Legacy and Enhanced players cannot join the same GTA Online sessions.

Is GTA V Enhanced free on PC?

Yes. Players who already own Grand Theft Auto V on PC can add GTA V Enhanced at no extra cost. First-time PC buyers receive both Enhanced and Legacy.¹

The two versions install separately. Keeping Legacy installed is optional, but it may be useful if your PC does not meet the Enhanced requirements or your friends have not upgraded.

What does GTA V Enhanced add on PC?

The Enhanced version adds:

• Ray-traced ambient occlusion and global illumination, plus ray-traced shadows and reflections
• Support for AMD FSR and NVIDIA DLSS
• Faster loading on supported SSD and DirectStorage configurations
• Higher resolution, aspect-ratio, and frame-rate support
• DualSense adaptive-trigger support
• Dolby Atmos support and improved audio fidelity
• Ambient animals and the daily Wildlife Photography Challenge
• Career Progress and the Career Builder
• Hao's Special Works vehicles, upgrades, races, and time trials
• Access to GTA+ on PC
• Kernel-based anti-cheat protections and proactive voice-chat moderation

Rockstar introduced these features as part of the free PC release, with some graphics options depending on supported hardware.¹

What does the Career Builder give new players?

The Career Builder lets a new or reset GTA Online character begin as an Executive, Gunrunner, Nightclub Owner, or Biker. It provides GTA$4,000,000 to spend on the selected career's starting property, vehicles, and weapons, with no more than GTA$1,000,000 left as starting cash.⁶

The Career Builder is a one-time option for an eligible character. Deleting that character does not grant another GTA$4,000,000 allocation.

Can I migrate my GTA Online character?

Yes. GTA V Enhanced can import an eligible GTA Online profile from GTA V Legacy on PC. Start the migration from the Enhanced Landing Page, or open the Pause Menu and select Online > Migrate Profile if you have already entered GTA Online Enhanced.²

The migration is PC-to-PC only. It does not move a console profile to PC or a PC profile to console. Your Legacy profile remains available after migration, but later progress does not synchronize between Legacy and Enhanced. Rockstar may also refuse profiles with suspensions, bans, illegitimate progress, or insufficient progress.

Can I migrate my Story Mode save?

Yes. Upload one Story Mode save from the Game > Upload Save Game option in GTA V Legacy, then download it from GTA V Enhanced. You can replace the uploaded save until it is downloaded, but a successful download completes the one-time Story Mode migration for that Rockstar Games account. Later progress does not synchronize between the two versions.³

Can Enhanced and Legacy players play together?

No. GTA Online Enhanced and GTA Online Legacy are separate PC instances. Everyone in a group must launch the same version before they can join one another.¹

Migrating does not delete the Legacy profile, but the two profiles develop independently afterward. Before migrating, agree on a version with anyone you regularly play with.

Is GTA+ available on PC?

Yes, but only through GTA V Enhanced, and availability can vary by region.⁵ GTA+ is optional and provides rotating GTA Online benefits, a monthly GTA$ deposit, Member-only Shark Cards, The Vinewood Club, and access to eligible games in the GTA+ Games Library.¹

GTA+ benefits are not available in GTA Online Legacy on PC.

What are the GTA V Enhanced PC system requirements?

Rockstar's current requirements call for a 105GB SSD at minimum. The recommended specification uses a DirectStorage-compatible drive.⁴

Actual performance depends on resolution, graphics settings, background software, drivers, and the rest of the system.

Does GTA V Legacy still receive support?

GTA V Legacy remains available, and Rockstar still identifies both PC Enhanced and PC Legacy in current update notes. Feature availability is not identical: HSW, Career Progress, GTA+, and some vehicles or upgrades are restricted to Enhanced.⁷

Should I move from Legacy to Enhanced?

Upgrade if your PC meets the requirements and you want the newer visual options and GTA Online features. Check which version your regular crew uses before moving because cross-version multiplayer is not supported.

Stay on Legacy if your hardware cannot run Enhanced reliably or if software you depend on still requires the older version. Both installs can remain available, but migrated Story Mode and Online progress do not continue syncing between them.
