The Shoot Animals Photography Challenge is a daily collectible activity in Grand Theft Auto Online, introduced with the Chop Shop update. Rockstar launched it on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S in January 2024,1 then added it to GTAV Enhanced on PC in March 2025.2
How to Participate
Visit the LS Tourist Board at Chiliad Mountain State Wilderness while you are in Freemode. You can complete the challenge in either an invite-only or public session.
Interact with the board to receive a daily list of three animals. You cannot choose which animals appear. Rockstar also lets you request the list by selecting the LS Tourist Board marker on the Pause Menu map.1
Use your in-game phone camera to photograph each animal on the list.
Photo Criteria
Center the animal within the camera grid and keep the view unobstructed. Predators may attack, while other animals can run away if you get too close. If an animal leaves the area, move away and return later.1
You can verify that the photo qualifies when the game offers you the option to send it to the LS Tourist Board.
Tracking Progress
You can track your daily progress for this collectible challenge by opening your Interaction Menu and navigating to the Collectibles section. Alternatively, if you're near the LS Tourist Board, simply interact with it to bring up your checklist and see your progress.
Animal Locations
Boar
There are multiple locations where you can find boar, but given the nature of the animal, it is best to approach it with caution so that it may not run away.
One of the most consistent and easiest locations is the one where a wild boar is always overlooking the Paleto Forest Sawmill in the Chiliad Mountain State Wilderness.
Cat
You can find cats in most of the alleyways of Los Santos. The most consistent locations include Strawberry or Pillbox Hill alleyways.
Chicken Hawk
You can find several different bird species flying over a small farm located east of the Redwood Lights Track and south of the Bolingbroke Penitentiary in the Grand Senora Desert.
One of the species you may encounter here is the Chicken Hawk. The farm also has chickens in a small enclosed pen in its backyard, which attracts the Chicken Hawks. You can find Chicken Hawks flying directly above the farm grounds.
There are many bird species here, you can identify the Chicken Hawk by looking at their beak that resembles that of an Eagle.
Cow
Cows are usually found in specific farms. One of the most consistent and guaranteed cow spawn locations is the Grapeseed Cow Farm.
Coyote
Coyotes can be found in abundance in desert areas, such as those in the Grand Senora Desert in Blaine County, particularly around Sandy Shores.
You can also find coyotes in Chiliad Mountain State Wilderness, but they are not as prevalent as they are in Sandy Shores.
Crow
You can always find multiple crows spawning on and around a trailer just outside the Sandy Shores Airfield hangar. The trailer is on the right side of the hangar.
Deer
Deer are found all over Chiliad Mountain State Wilderness in Blaine County.
Great Cormorant
The Great Cormorant is also near at the same location as the Chicken Hawk: a small farm located east of the Redwood Lights Track and south of Bolingbroke Penitentiary in the Grand Senora Desert.
If you don't find any there, you can go down the dirt road to the south and stand between Miguel Madrazo's mansion and the small farm where you found the Chicken Hawk. Look into the sky to find multiple Great Cormorants.
You can identify the Great Cormorant by its long neck.
Hen
Hens can be found in several locations in Sandy Shores, including the Grapeseed Cow Farm, the small farm where you find the Chicken Hawk, and the backyards of some houses you encounter in Sandy Shores.
Mountain Lion
Mountain Lions are commonly found in the forested and mountainous areas of San Andreas. You can always find some on Mount Josiah, Mount Gordo, and even in the Chiliad Mountain State Wilderness, right where you find boars or deer.
Pig
You can find pigs in a pen at the Grapeseed Cow Farm and also at La Fuente Blanca, a ranch owned by Martin Madrazo.
Poodle
You can find poodles on the streets of Rockford Hills and Vinewood Boulevard. You can also find them on Del Perro Beach.
Pug
Just like poodles, pugs can be found on the streets of Rockford Hills, Mirror Park, or Vespucci Beach. Rockford Hills is the most consistent location for all types of dogs.
Rabbit
You can easily find rabbits roaming the rural areas of San Andreas, such as Chiliad Mountain State Wilderness. The wilderness is filled with rabbits wherever you go.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the time of day affect the spawning of animals?
Some animals are easier to find at particular times. Hens are easiest to spot during the day, while coyotes and mountain lions are more common after dark. Most animals on the list are not limited to one time of day.
I went to the poodle location, but a pug spawned instead. Why?
Several dog breeds can appear in the same parts of Rockford Hills. If you find a pug instead of a poodle, drive a few blocks away and return to refresh the nearby pedestrians and animals. The same breed may appear again, so it can take several attempts.
I tried driving away, but I still didn't see the animal I wanted. What should I do?
If driving away and returning does not refresh the spawn, set your spawn location to "Last Location" while you are near the animal's location, then switch sessions. This creates another chance for the animal to appear, but you may still need more than one attempt.
