Grand Theft Auto V Expanded and Enhanced is the second re-release of Grand Theft Auto V. It was exclusively launched on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X on March 5, 2022.

Unlike Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced Edition, GTA V Expanded and Enhanced wasn't released on PCs.

History

Rockstar Games confirmed the official release date of GTA V Expanded and Enhanced on February 4, 2022.

Despite earlier leaks suggesting a PC port, this version never came to PCs. However, the upgrades and features it added to GTA 5 and Grand Theft Auto Online were later repackaged for the second PC re-release of GTA V, Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced.

GTA V Expanded and Enhanced is the latest version of GTA V and GTA Online. Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick confirmed on February 14, 2025, that it intends to continue supporting the game after the release of Grand Theft Auto 6.

Content

Grand Theft Auto V Expanded and Enhanced is the second visual upgrade to GTA 5, introduced as part of Rockstar Games' ongoing efforts to continue supporting the latest platforms. It was also the first GTA 5 re-release to add exclusive content that would no longer be available to players on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One going forward.

Aside from the graphical upgrades and technical improvements, GTA V Expanded and Enhanced added in-game content such as Hao's Special Works, the Career Builder, GTA+, and The Vinewood Club, among others.

Finally, among the most notable additions was the separation of Grand Theft Auto Online into a standalone product. This move signaled a strategic pivot towards the “live service” model, allowing new players to access the multiplayer experience independently of the single-player campaign.

On PlayStation 5, the standalone Online component was even offered free for a limited time, incentivizing adoption and expanding the player base.

Ongoing Support

Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick has since confirmed that the company intends to continue supporting Grand Theft Auto Online following the launch of Grand Theft Auto 6.

The subsequent release of GTA V Enhanced for PC in 2025 and the separation of Grand Theft Auto V Legacy for aging hardware proves that Rockstar will support most if not all versions of GTA V for a long time.
