invincibility only lasts like 5 mins, is mine broken?

Not broken, that's just how it works. Invincibility runs on a 5-minute timer then switches itself off, every time, there's no permanent god-mode cheat in GTA 5. So you have to re-enter it when it runs out. Get in the habit of punching it back in before any big fight.

yeah its 5 min on the dot. i just use the phone number cheat and redial it instead of doing the whole button combo every time, way faster
