Despite its age, Grand Theft Auto V still ranks rank high on both the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 PlayStation Store charts.

The can't keep getting away with this... In what feels like a phrase that we've said so many times already before, Grand Theft Auto V has once again been ranked as one of the most downloaded games on the PlayStation Store despite how old it is and how popular it already was.

According to the official list published by Sony on April 7, the 2013 title more than held its own against modern-day contemporaries and long-term adversaries despite being older than the PlayStation 4 throughout March, continuing a trend that started earlier in the month and even in the months prior.

On the PlayStation 5, GTA 5 was ranked 13th and 8th in the US/Canada and EU regions, respectively. Meanwhile, on the PS4, GTA 5 was 12th in the US/Canada region and 9th in the EU region. Other games that appeared on the list include early GOTY candidates Split Fiction and Kingdom Come: Deliverance II.

After waiting for what seemed like forever and several delays, Rockstar Games finally treated fans to the long-awaited return trip to Los Santos in 2013. The game was an immediate success, setting records that hold up to this day. No one would've expected that GTA 5, which would later spawn a standalone online component in Grand Theft Auto Online, would remain just as popular in 2025.

The open-world title now sits behind Minecraft as the second best-selling video game in history, with over 210 million copies sold. Given its sustained popularity, it's safe to say that pivoting its resources towards GTA 5, even if it came at the expense of several cut DLC content, has paid off well for Rockstar and Take-Two Interactive.

With that said, it's fair to wonder how popular GTA 5 will remain once Grand Theft Auto 6 is released later this year. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has promised that they'll continue supporting the game even with GTA 6 on the market. We can't say for sure if it will receive the same level of support that it has over its lifetime, especially in recent months as it saw record player numbers because of a seasonal zombie mode, among other updates.

It will be interesting to what Rockstar will do once it finds itself with an enviable but still very much valid problem of having two of the most successful products in gaming history. Speaking of successful Rockstar titles, this is the second straight month that Red Dead Redemption 2 was one of the most downloaded games on PlayStation 4, topping the charts in the US/Canada and EU regions.
