The CyberLeek Grand Theft Auto 6 leaks are barely a week old, and modders have already ripped one of its headline features straight out of the footage and dropped it into Grand Theft Auto V. A script called VI Wanted System, uploaded to GTA5-Mods on August 23 by a modder named andre500, recreates the smarter, description-based wanted system that the footage put on display and you can download it and play it tonight.
Once installed, the Los Santos cops stop chasing a blip and start chasing you specifically, your face, your clothes, and your car all get logged, and even after you lose the stars, they keep hunting based on that description.
Play it for ten minutes and it all makes you want to play the next Grand Theft Auto more. This is the same wanted system you'll toy around with in Vice City come November 19. However, older GTA fans might remember a "tamer" version of this. Grand Theft Auto VI made you flee a search radius to escape, then GTA V threw that out for a simpler line-of-sight cooldown. So GTA 6 is bringing the zone back only dialed up to a more paranoid extreme, now stacked with facial recognition and wardrobe tracking, which makes sense given when GTA 6 takes place compared to the Liberty City of GTA IV.
What the VI Wanted System mod recreates
Feature | What happens | Detail worth knowing |
|---|---|---|
Face, clothes, and car logged | Earn stars and the police record your appearance and vehicle | That profile drives everything that follows |
Search continues after stars clear | Lose the wanted level and cops keep looking by description | You are not safe just because the stars are gone |
Red search zone | A red circle marks where police concentrate the hunt | Zone size scales with how many stars you had |
On-screen bounty profile | Dark red stars and a written description of your look sit on the HUD | It shows exactly what the cops "know" |
Zone reactivation | Cross paths with law enforcement inside the circle and the wanted level snaps back | Staying out of the zone is the new escape |
Change clothes and vehicles | Swapping both lowers your risk of being flagged again | It does not clear the facial-recognition alert on its own |
Facial recognition expiry | The face flag eventually clears by itself | Anywhere from one in-game day to a week, depending on stars |
Per-character heat | Wanted levels are tracked separately per character | Switching characters does not carry the stars over |
The GTA 6 police mechanics andre500 rebuilt in GTA V, based on what the CyberLeek footage showed.
Fans have already rebuilt the entire GTA 6 map inside GTA V, and now the wanted system too. Piece by piece, the community is assembling a playable bootleg of a game so you won't have to wait. The drought and anticipation for the game has turned modders into a de facto preview team.
Fair warning before you dive in. This is an unofficial single-player mod, so it needs the usual GTA V modding plumbing, specifically ScriptHookVDotNet 3.6.0 or newer, with the files dropped in your Scripts folder. The good news? It runs on both the Legacy and Enhanced editions.
So, back up your game, grab it from the real GTA5-Mods page rather than some reupload, and remember andre500's build is a 1.0, so expect rough edges.
Ultimately, it is a genuinely clever taste of what Leonida policing might feel like, warts and all. You can rehearse the cat-and-mouse now, swapping jackets and boosting cars to shake a facial-recognition flag, days before the official reveal on August 27. Just don't get too attached to your muscle memory. The actual Vice City lands November 19, and Rockstar tends to change the rules the second you think you have them figured out.
