Obbe Vermeij definitely wasn't joking when he mentioned last year that porting Grand Theft Auto III to the Sega Dreamcast would mean that the same could also be done with Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. Less than two months after releasing the Alpha version of the Sega Dreamcast port of the 2002 title, the development team led by SKMP is already ready with a beta update, which comes with "loads of fixes and improvements."
Perhaps it's timely that the development team dropped the update on April 1, of all dates - but it's no prank. It's here. If you'd like to know more about the latest update to what the developers are referring to as dca3 you can read the patch notes. Now that both GTA 3 and GTA Vice City are on the Dreamcast, does that mean that Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is next on the docket? Not quite.
There is currently no reverse-engineered source code available for the 2004 title. Unless the team wants to risk going toe to toe with the same people who has already shut down projects like the Liberty City Preservation Project, GTA Vice City: Next-Gen Edition, and this fan-made recreation of the Grand Theft Auto 6 map in Grand Theft Auto V, this is the end of the line.
