This is your sign to buy a PlayStation 5 Pro today before the tariffs kick in so that you can enjoy Grand Theft Auto 6 at its best on May 26, 2026.

Rockstar Games released the second Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer on Tuesday and it immediately set a new video record for the most-viewed debut of any entertainment product of all time. Of course, given that so many had laid eyes on the latest GTA 6 footage, including former Rockstar Games animator Mike York, who had nothing but praise, it was only a matter of time until Digital Foundry got to work.

Experts when it comes to breaking down video game hardware and what makes them tick, Alex Battaglia, Oliver Mackenzie, John Linneman broke down the record-setting trailer, revealing good news for those looking forward to playing the game on the PlayStation 5 Pro. According to the Digital Foundry team, the gameplay used for the GTA 6 trailer was running at around 2560 x 1152 before it was upscaled to 4K at 30 frames per second.

The team also fawned over the improvements Rockstar has made to the game's graphics from the first trailer, pointing out minute details such as the reflective surfaces early on in the trailer with Jason Duval riding in his car and other small touches like bubbling and movement on Jason's beer bottles.

In a later interview with IGN, Battaglia broke things down even further. The article states "Games often come with either a fidelity mode, which prioritizes up to 4K resolution at 30 fps, or a performance mode, which targets 60 fps at lower resolution. But with the launch of the PS5 Pro, Sony has made efforts to bridge the two modes, and it’s something Battaglia says we’ll likely see pushed closer to GTA 6's release."

In Battaglia's own words, "PS5 Pro could enhance image quality through the use of PSSR making a less aliased, more detailed image with less blur." While the experts over at Digital Foundry are skeptical that the PS5 Pro could run GTA 6 at 60 FPS, which other experts agree with, the promise of better image quality is more than enough of a draw.

Keep in mind that Rockstar has already confirmed that GTA 6 Trailer 2 was shot entirely on the base PS5. If the game can look that good on a 2020 console, we've little reason to doubt its performance on the PS5 Pro. Digital Foundry's vote of confidence only adds to the growing list of reasons to buy a PS5 Pro right now (the tariffs are another).

The PS5 Pro is technically only getting started. It's set to benefit from FS4-inspired technology next year and GTA 6 will likely be the first to benefit from this considering the close ties between Sony and Rockstar. At that point, we're hoping you've already gotten your hands on the PS5 Pro. If not, then you might as well wait for the PS6 or for GTA 6 to be released on the PC so you don't end up paying a lot more than necessary.
