Nintendo platforms have historically not been a priority for Rockstar Games, but the studio has supported their consoles to some extent, which may be why talks of Grand Theft Auto 6 possibly coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 are generating so much excitement. The main source of all these talks is NateTheHate2, who previously mentioned that Rockstar was "doing tests to bring [GTA 6] to the Switch 2". However, the same insider clarified that tests don't always mean that a game is releasing on that platform.

It's common practice for developers to run their games on other platforms even if they don't end up releasing on them. Rockstar has a history of this with Grand Theft Auto III, initially being developed for the Sega Dreamcast, before this idea was ultimately scrapped, and the exclusive rights went to Sony. At the same time, Red Dead Redemption 2 has been rumored to be in the works for Nintendo's latest console, which is selling extremely well all over the world.

Red Dead Redemption and Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition were released on the Nintendo Switch in recent years, and it's not like Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick has not flirted with the idea of releasing Grand Theft Auto V on the same platform, even speaking highly of the Nintendo Switch 2 earlier this year. So what we're trying to say here is that it isn't impossible, but it's also best to keep expectations tempered.

Rockstar has made it clear with its recent actions that it's all-in on GTA 6. Between the return-to-office mandate and sparse content release, Rockstar, despite having studios all across the world, like in Scotland, India, and Australia, among others, isn't willing to compromise and split its resources while it's working on what's widely considered the most highly anticipated game of all time.

Even if GTA 6 can run on the Switch 2 and Rockstar is actively testing it, don't expect to see an announcement anytime soon. Not porting its games to the Switch and Switch 2 is leaving money on the table. Still, it's not like Rockstar is a studio wanting for more, especially given the success of GTA V with its multiple editions from Grand Theft Auto V: The Enhanced Edition to Grand Theft Auto V: Expanded and Enhanced and Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced.
