Rockstar are making the same mistake they made 10 years ago.
Over a decade after Grand Theft Auto V saw a flood of confidential game files leak on the internet following an unprotected preload, Rockstar Games finds itself dealing with a similar problem.
As reported by @GTANet on X, jailbroken PlayStation 5 consoles have gotten access to the upcoming Grand Theft Auto Online update ahead of its launch on June 17.
As a result, they're now warning about potentially finding spoilers when searching for GTA Online info on social media.
Rockstar quietly released the incoming GTA Online update for preload over the weekend, perhaps to help ease the congestion on the game's servers. After all, it wouldn't hurt to exercise caution.
Despite its age, GTA Online remains as popular as ever, with GTA V selling over 215 million copies as of the latest Take-Two Interactive earnings call.
This pre-download strategy for GTA Online isn't entirely new for Rockstar. They first experimented with it during the summer 2023 San Andreas Mercenaries update, followed by The Chop Shop, Bottom Dollar Bounties, and Agents of Sabotage.
With that said, the only consolation that we have is that there probably isn't much to leak with the Money Fronts GTA Online DLC.
The so-called "Breaking Bad" update isn't expected to be groundbreaking, by any means. The only reason to avoid spoilers is if, for some reason, Rockstar had randomly decided to bring back Michael De Santa following several teases a while back.
Trevor Philips and Franklin Clinton all returned in major GTA Online updates, so it would make sense for the same thing to happened to Michael.
In fact, it wouldn't surprise us if Michael doesn't make an appearance until Grand Theft Auto 6, especially after we saw a boat that looks a lot like the one he lost in the single-player campaign of GTA Online in the second trailer for GTA 6.
As for the spoilers, it remains to be seen if Rockstar will do something, but with June 17 just right around the corner, we won't have to wait long to find out what exactly is included in the Money Fronts update.
