Rockstar Games pushed a new background update to Grand Theft Auto Online on Tuesday, March 24, fixing a handful of issues and, more interestingly, laying the groundwork for the annual 4/20 event in April.
Unlike the mystery 450MB PC-only patch that dropped on March 17 with a one-line patch note, this background update is the kind that does not require a download at all. Background updates are handled server-side, meaning the changes are applied automatically the next time a player loads into the game.
As noted by community insider Tex2, formerly known as Tez2, here is what changed. First, a fix for an issue that prevented players from driving vehicles that actors exit in player-created missions. This is a Mission Creator bug, and given that the Rockstar Mission Creator was one of the headline features of the December 2025 A Safehouse in the Hills update, continued fixes for it are expected.
Second, voting has been skipped for the Hunting Pack (Get Lamar) Adversary Mode, a change applied across four Adversary Mode maps, three of which are existing Hunting Pack (Get Lamar) entries and one of which is new. Third, a PC-specific patch for an "Apartment Trade In" glitch presumably exploited for financial gain in-game.
The new fourth Hunting Pack (Get Lamar) map is the interesting part. Tex2 expects it to launch in mid-April, which Rockstar has celebrated with themed content for several years now. On top of that, a "Stoner Survival" mode is expected to drop alongside the event in the coming weeks.
None of this is major content by any standard.
A new Adversary Mode map and a themed Survival variant are the kind of incremental additions that GTA Online receives between its larger updates. But they serve a specific purpose in the game's content calendar: keeping the weekly rotation fresh enough that players have a reason to log in between the bigger drops.
For a game that is approaching its 13th anniversary and still generating enough revenue to justify regular patches, a GTA+ subscription that now includes NBA 2K26, and active QA hiring in Bangalore, these updates are less about individual fixes and more of a reassurance that Rockstar isn't about to drop support for GTA Online anytime soon.
