Even with Grand Theft Auto 6 coming out next year, millions of players are still buying GTA V.
Grand Theft Auto V outsold pretty much every game in history when it first came out. Over a decade later, the 2013 title is still outpacing the competition.
GTA V is turning 12 later this year and its sequel, Grand Theft Auto 6, finally has a release date.
Yet, according to Take-Two Interactive and the company's latest earnings call, GTA 5 continues to show little to no signs of slowing down.
According to the company's latest earnings report, GTA V sold more than 5 million copies since February 2025. The game has now sold over 215 million copies.
In total, the Grand Theft Auto franchise is now at roughly 450 million copies sold, making it one of the best-selling video game properties of all time.
Take-Two said that GTA V "surpassed forecasts" and the series overall is getting more interest considering that it "only" sells 5 million per quarter, which it doubled over the past three months.
There's no doubt that this has something to do with what was supposed to be the imminent release of GTA 6.
Now that GTA 6 is delayed though, it'll be interesting to see how it will impact the sales of GTA 5 and GTA as a whole.
However, even if _GTA 5 **'s sales does go down, it is interesting that it's selling more over the past quarter (and change) than the best games released this year.
Here's a list of the best-reviewed games of 2025 so far and how many units they've sold following their release:
*Split Fiction- 4 million copies since March 6, 2025
*Clair Obscur: Expedition 33- 2 million copies since April 24, 2025
*Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2- 3 million copies since February 4, 2025
*Assassin's Creed Shadows- 3 million copies since March 20, 2025
*Monster Hunter Wilds- 10 million copies since February 28, 2025
As you can see,GTA V_outsold all but_Monster Hunter Wilds, which set a new record for most copies sold for a Capcom game within a month of launching.
The fact that_GTA 5_continues to outsell competition despite its age sets a high mark for_GTA 6_.
But even though_GTA 5_is a tough act to follow, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick seems confident that_GTA 6_can deliver, even downplaying the delay and saying that it is necessary as Rockstar pursues perfection for the next entry in the series.
With that said, we can look forward to continue releasing new_GTA Online_updates, which, in Zelnick's words, are akin to new titles.
At the moment, returning_GTA Online_ players can redeem up to GTA$3 million in in-game cash just by coming back, buying Shark Cards, and subscribing to GTA+.
