GTA Online players can download the summer update right now, but there's a catch.

If you're a Grand Theft Auto Online player on the right platform, you just caught a break: you'll be able to pre-load and maybe even play the upcoming Money Fronts update ahead of everyone else.

Rockstar Games has quietly released the pre-download for their upcoming Money Fronts summer update, but only certain players get to take advantage of this early access opportunity

If you own a PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, or Xbox Series S, you can start downloading the update two days before the official release on Tuesday, June 17.

For the first time ever, Xbox players are getting the pre-download treatment, joining PlayStation users who have enjoyed this privilege for the past several updates. Unfortunately, PlayStation 4 users, who previously enjoyed pre-download access to GTA Online updates, have been mysteriously excluded this time around.

The pre-download process itself is simple. Head to your console's update section, and the Money Fronts download should appear with a pre-download option. Once completed, you can continue playing Grand Theft Auto V and GTA Online as normal. The update just sits there, ready to activate the moment Rockstar flips the switch on Tuesday morning.

While this isn't the first for GTA Online, the early pre-download has led to hackers getting access to the update, so you might want to stay away from social media for a while if you don't want to have certain aspects spoiled to you.

As expected, the download sizes vary by platform. PlayStation 5 users are looking at approximately 3GB, while Xbox Series X and S owners need to clear about 4.66GB. Xbox One players, who also get pre-download access, need 3.59GB of free space. These sizes are notably smaller than December's Agents of Sabotage update, which weighed in at over 13GB on some platforms, suggesting that this is a relatively minor content refresh ahead of a potentially larger update later this year.

Confirmed earlier this week, the Money Fronts update promises to bring fresh content to the eight-year-old online game, including five new vehicles and a car wash business that players can operate for profit. Two new properties, The Smoke on the Water and Higgins Helitours, will also play major roles in the new content.

Judging by the usual timeline of GTA Online updates, we could get at least two more DLCs before Grand Theft Auto 6 comes out on May 26, 2026.

Tuesday's update also coincides with a new GTA+ subscription month. This timing means players have just a couple of days to claim current exclusive perks before they rotate out with the new update.

So, if you've got the right console, you'll want to take advantage of this early access opportunity. After all, why wait in line on Tuesday when you can download now and dive straight into the action?
