The official release date reveal for the next installment in Rockstar Games' iconic open-world franchise might just be right around the corner after a a major Swiss retailer, Brack, listed Grand Theft Auto 6 pre-orders at a staggering 99 Swiss Francs, equivalent to approximately £87, €103, or $112.

While Brack has noted that this may not be the final price and that pre-order customers will need to accept any future adjustments, the listing has nonetheless fueled speculation about the game's potential cost. Brack isn't the first retailer to list GTA 6 for pre-order but it's arguably the biggest one yet and the only retailer to put a price tag on the upcoming title.

It's worth noting that Rockstar nor Take-Two Interactive has yet to confirm a significant price increase for GTA 6. At the moment, AAA video games retail for $69.99. Although industry experts have long speculated that GTA 6 would be the first to break the $70 price point in modern gaming, presumably using the promise of in-game currencies and other free content to justify the high asking price for the base title, the $30 jump in pricing remains unconfirmed by any official source.

Michael Pachter in particular has proposed that Take-Two could mirror Activision's approach with Call of Duty, where premium content and online mode integration led to a substantial boost in sales. However, these types of price increases set a dangerous precedent for the rest of the gaming industry. Who knows which games will follow suit at the $100 price point and if they'll be able to justify the asking price.

Even GTA 6 will be hard-pressed to sell its content to gamers, despite its defenders. The game may be expected to sell billions within its launch week and Rockstar may have been called "king" before but that doesn't mean it can get away with nearly doubling the price of today's titles.

With that said, the only confirmed piece of information right now by Rockstar and Take-Two is that GTA 6 is still coming out later this fall, presumably after Borderlands 4. Everything else, including speculations that we're getting a new trailer in April, possibly on April 1, are mere speculation. Although it is telling that Rockstar India is still hiring game testers for April 5 for an undisclosed game.

In the meantime, Grand Theft Auto fans can keep themselves busy with Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced and Grand Theft Auto V Expanded and Enhanced.
