While an April Fool's Day reveal seems unconventional, it's not out of character for Rockstar.
Grand Theft Auto 6 got its first trailer in December 2023. The last time we checked, that's over a year ago. so we can't exactly blame fans for getting a little too antsy, to the point that they've circled back to one of the older theories regarding GTA 6. The item in question is the "One Day Will Reveal All" t-shirt in Grand Theft Auto Online, which Rockstar added just ahead of the release of GTA 6's first trailer.
The shirt contains a series of numbers on the shirt that, when interpreted as a date, points to the original release date of the first GTA 6 trailer, and April 1, 2025. This precedent is one of the biggest reasons why many believe that Rockstar had long teased the game's next major reveal. The timing of this potential trailer release date aligns with other projects made by industry analysts and Grand Theft Auto content creators.
GTA VI O'Clock, in particular, is one of these trusted sources who believes that a new GTA 6 trailer will drop in April. Aside from their "credible tip-off", they also examined the marketing timelines of previous Rockstar titles like Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2. A compressed five to six-month marketing campaign for GTA 6 is also in line with documentation from Take-Two Interactive that confirmed that they've increased their marketing spend for later this year.
With Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick confirming that GTA 6 is still on track for a Fall 2025 launch, it all makes sense for Rockstar to finally get the ball rolling in April. While an April 1 release for the next GTA 6 trailer certainly isn't usual, Rockstar has never been the kind of developers to follow the norms.
They're known for putting in easter eggs, trolling fans, and dropping hints about their upcoming projects in some of the most obscure places in their games. It wouldn't be totally out of character for Rockstar to subvert expectations by choosing such an unconventional date for a major announcement. It would also be the perfect example of how, as Zelnick once put it, GTA 6 will set a "creative benchmark" for the entertainment industry.
For what it's worth, it's also entirely possible that Rockstar are actively trying to spread as many rumors about GTA 6 as possible to try and throw everyone off their backs, or so to speak. After the leaks that they've suffered, including the one in September 2022 and the GTA 6 trailer leak, you can't blame Rockstar for wanting to take even more precautions than ever.
Regardless of when the next trailer drops, GTA fans are all dying to play the game. It's even come to a point that retailers are already accepting pre-orders of what could potentially be the first game to hit the $100 mark.
