The annual report promises news "soon" ahead of the May 2026 release, but the company stayed mysteriously silent about Rockstar during the actual shareholder meeting despite GTA dominating their finances.
Stop us if you heard this one before: Grand Theft Auto V continues to be the most successful entertainment product of all time for Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive. More interestingly, the latter finally promises incoming Grand Theft Auto 6 news straight from the source.
This was the gist of the annual report released by Take-Two on Thursday, September 18. Rockstar's parent company confirmed that the developers will share new details about the upcoming sequel soon ahead of the game's release on May 26, 2026. That's the good news. The bad news? They couldn't say exactly when this information is coming.
While games like Borderlands 4 and Mafia: The Old Country got their moments in the spotlight, the annual report proved once again just how massive Grand Theft Auto is and how much the franchise means to Take-Two's bottom line. According to the financial documents, GTA games contributed a staggering 12.6 percent to the company's net revenue for the fiscal year that ended on March 31, 2025.
That's nearly 8 cents out of every $1 the company makes, all from a franchise whose latest mainline entry came out over a decade ago. This financial dependency explains why Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick is treating GTA 6 like a crown jewel. In the report, the company made it clear they expect the game to help them achieve record levels of net bookings. In simpler terms, Take-Two is no different from industry experts, other studios, leakers, and voice actors. They're also betting the farm on GTA 6 being a massive hit.
Interestingly, while GTA dominated the written report, neither the franchise nor Rockstar got any verbal mentions during the actual shareholder meeting. For context, these annual meetings are different from the quarterly earnings calls that happen every three months. The next quarterly investor call is scheduled for about two months from now, which could potentially be when we get those promised additional details about GTA 6.
Given that we've only seen the first and second trailers so far, along with screenshots about the characters and locations we're expecting to see in the game, everyone is understandably craving for any additional glimpse into what Rockstar itself just described as the "largest game launch in history" only to retract the statement just days later.
