Before we got an official confirmation that Grand Theft Auto 6 was in development and set in Vice City, Leonida, there were rumors that it would feature multiple locations, particularly different states. Dubbed as "Project Americas", this was the prevailing theory for GTA 6 up until we got the first trailer back in December 2023. With the surprise release of the second GTA 6 trailer, it definitely appears that the earlier leaks were true.
After confirming GTA 6's delay to May 26, 2026, Rockstar Games made up for the year-long delay with a massive content drop that featured everything from an updated website filled new characters to new locations in a trailer that was shot entirely on a base PlayStation 5.
With so much to unpack in the character-focused GTA 6 trailer, Grand Theft Auto fans will have something to keep themselves busy for the foreseeable future. While most (including us) are still busy trying to make sense of every tiny detail we got from the new footage, there are already a few things that stand out. Case in point, a car plate featured that mentions a state that isn't Leonida.
As we've already mentioned, GTA 6 is set in Leonida, an HD Universe-exclusive state based on Florida. In real-life, Florida is next-door neighbours to Georgia and Alabama.
So why do we think that we'll get a chance to visit another state in GTA 6, particularly one named Gloriana? Aside from the license plates, the new GTA 6 trailer also introduces us to a new location: the Mount Kalaga National Park.
As pointed out by many users on X, the Mount Kalaga National Park is possibly based on Georgia's Providence Canyon State Park. So, while this isn't the first time a Grand Theft Auto game has featured vehicles with license plates from other states, it might be the first game to let us visit a different state entirely outside of one-off missions.
Most recently, Grand Theft Auto V introduced North Yankton, a separate state from San Andreas, where Los Santos is located. However, it is only accessible through the prologue, certain missions, and a Grand Theft Auto Online event. It's possible Gloriana might still be a prologue-exclusive area, though.
However, Mount Kalaga National Park may also take inspiration from lesser-known parts of Florida, like, let's say, the mountainous cliffs between Tallahassee and Pensacola. Regardless of what's true, what Rockstar is basically saying now is that GTA 6 will be bigger than any of us had ever imagined.
The only question now is, how big will it be? Our guess is that the in-game world will expand, similar to previous rumors after reports that Rockstar reportedly met up with content creators earlier this year.
GTA 6 is currently set for a May 26, 2026 release on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X. There's no word as of yet on the in-development PC port or if it's coming to the Nintendo Switch 2.
