A mural spotted at 2041 NW 2nd Avenue in Miami's Wynwood district has drawn quite a lot of eyes over the past 48 hours. The reason? The artwork appears to tease something happening this Saturday, January 31, 2026, and features a distinctly GTA-inspired art style complete with vibrant colors and street art aesthetics that wouldn't look out of place in Vice City.

The problem? It's not for Grand Theft Auto 6 at all. It's promotional artwork for Formula E's Miami E-Prix happening this weekend, specifically featuring drivers Felipe Drugovich and Jake Dennis. Welcome to the GTA 6 news drought, where fans are connecting dots that don't exist because Rockstar Games hasn't given them anything substantial to work with in months. This isn't the first time something like this happened, either.

We've been here before. The wait between GTA 6 Trailer 1 and Trailer 2 lasted over 500 days, and during that stretch, Grand Theft Auto fans turned to some pretty wild things to entertain themselves, becoming amateur detectives as they analyzed everything under the sun (and the moon). This latest situation is another example of what happens to a fanbase this... dedicated when starved for information.

For what it's worth, Wynwood appears prominently in the GTA 6 trailers, and the art style resembles Rockstar's promotional materials (even though it does reek of AI). Not to mention the date - January 31, 2026 - is just a week before Take-Two Interactive's next earnings call. All the ingredients were there for speculation. Except, this isn't about GTA 6 at all. It's a Formula E ad.

The Miami E-Prix is happening at the Miami International Autodrome on Saturday, January 31, 2026. Formula E, the all-electric racing championship, has been promoting the event across Miami with various street art installations, and this particular mural features two of the drivers competing this weekend. It has absolutely nothing to do with Rockstar, Take-Two, or GTA.

The GTA 6 community has waited through multiple delays, an agonizingly long silence between trailers, and virtually zero communication from Rockstar about what to expect or when.

Rockstar's marketing strategy for GTA 6 has been minimal to say the least. Two trailers in over two years. We've had virtually no official communication beyond delay announcements. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick describes this as a deliberate attempt at "shorter marketing campaigns closer to release," but for fans waiting over a decade for the next GTA, it feels like torture.

The news vacuum creates an environment where anything that looks vaguely GTA-adjacent becomes news. A billboard in Times Square that turned out to be fan-made. Alleged leaks from anonymous developers on Reddit. Insider claims that later get walked back. Now, Formula E promotional art. While this particular mural is a false alarm, the timing does line up with two events that could produce actual GTA 6 news.

As we've already mentioned, Take-Two Interactive's Q3 FY2026 earnings call is scheduled for February 3, 2026. If Rockstar has anything to say about GTA 6's November 19 release date, February 3 is when we'll hear it.

Additionally, PlayStation may be planning a State of Play showcase for mid-February, potentially around February 12. Sony reportedly has marketing rights to GTA 6, and historically, PlayStation has held State of Play presentations in February four out of the last five years. If there's going to be new GTA 6 footage or announcements, a PlayStation showcase would be the logical venue.

So while the Wynwood mural is a dead end, the next two weeks could actually deliver something. Or they could deliver nothing, and we'll all keep waiting until Rockstar decides the time is right.
