Stephen Root just did something almost no Grand Theft Auto actor ever does: he confirmed that he voices a character in Grand Theft Auto VI.

The important distinction is that Root did not name the character during the interview. According to Variety, his role is Brian Heder, matching the voice comparison fans had already made from the trailers and the Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look. That makes Brian the strongest identification, but not a character name confirmed in Root's own words.

Root is one of those actors who turns up in everything, from Milton in Office Space to Fuches in Barry, alongside decades of film and television work. Brian Heder is a drug runner and mentor figure connected to Jason, one of the game's two protagonists. You can read more about him on our Wiki page.

Rockstar Games keeps its casts sealed until launch as a rule. It does not publish cast lists, and actors rarely acknowledge their involvement this early. Root's interview is still a rare pre-release confirmation of a GTA 6 voice role; it simply does not settle the character name by itself.

The studio has said nothing official about who plays Jason, Lucia or anyone else, which is why fans spend months reverse-engineering the cast from voice matches in the first place.

For now, Root is the only actor to have publicly confirmed his own involvement in the game. Brian Heder remains the reported role, while the rest of the cast may stay secret until the game comes out in November.
