The new trailer for The Outer Worlds 2 openly references Rockstar's delay, proving no one wants to be in the path of the gaming juggernaut.

Earlier this year, Hideo Kojima openly admitted to avoiding Grand Theft Auto 6 on purpose, preferring to release Death Stranding 2 ahead of Rockstar Games' upcoming sequel.

Fast forward to Gamescom 2025 and Obsidian Entertainment did the same, albeit in a jokingly manner.

Tapping comedian Ben Schwartz, who played the role of "Mark, Head of Sequels", the 43-year-old opened the new trailer to The Outer Worlds 2 by mentioning that the game will have an actual release date "now that GTA 6 has been pushed to the spring.

This is in clear reference to the delay that hit GTA 6 , which, according to some experts, might have a catastrophic impact on the video game industry.

This isn't the first time we've heard from people within the video game industry about avoiding GTA 6. The words "meteor" and "iceberg" have been used to refer to what's already a record-breaking title based on the first and second trailers alone.

However, seeing a studio, even if in jest, admit that they can now confidently release their titles now that GTA 6 isn't coming out anytime soon speaks volumes about how much everyone is expecting from the incoming sixthquel.

And while other developers aren't always privy to the plans of their competitors, it does lend weight to the confidence that Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick had when he mentioned that GTA 6 will finally be released next year with no delays.

With Gamescom 2025 still ongoing and many more games expected to be announced and released before the year ends, don't be surprised if GTA 6's name will get mentioned even more.

In the meantime, Rockstar appears to be preparing for what comes before and after GTA 6, starting with a re-release of Red Dead Redemption 2 and Grand Theft Auto 4 on modern platforms.
