Rockstar Games is resetting player ranks for those who exploited the Black Box File RP glitch in Grand Theft Auto Online, offering a relatively mild punishment.

Crime absolutely does pay in Grand Theft Auto Online - but not necessarily when the aggrieved party is Rockstar Games. Breaking the law and breaking the rules are two very different things as far as the developers are concerned.

Usually heavy on the ban hammer, Rockstar has finally decided to punish users who exploited the Black Box File RP glitch that pretty much gave users who did it infinite RP - the good news is that the punishment isn't too severe.

According to Rockstar insider @TezFun2, the developer has reset the in-game rank of those who abused the glitch. If you're one of these players, you should see an alert from Rockstar Games Service the next time you log back into the game. Rockstar did not release an official statement regarding the glitch as usual, but if it's any consolation, they spent the last couple of months cleaning up bugs in Grand Theft Auto V.

Since the release of Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced and Grand Theft Auto V Legacy on PC, bug fixes and patches from Rockstar have been a regular fixture. Although the latest version of GTA V still has a couple of kinks to work out, including not supporting Linux and the Steam Deck, it's by all means the best way to enjoy the second-best-selling video game of all time.

True enough, the regular release of new GTA Online updates have reflected in the game's continued popularity. Despite being over a decade old, GTA Online is still one of the most downloaded games across multiple platforms and was the most-streamed game on Twitch last year. This makes GTA V a tough act to follow, but Rockstar's rumored plans for Grand Theft Auto 6 suggests that it will more than live up to expectations.

At the moment, GTA Online just welcomed its most recent weekly update with rumors that Michael De Santa could finally reappear, joining fellow GTA Protagonists, Trevor Philips and Franklin Clinton, ahead of GTA 6's launch later this year. In other Grand Theft Auto news, a 20-year-old bug in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas just came back to life, and it's all thanks to a recent Windows 11 update.
