9% of all gaming content watched in 2024 on Twitch came from GTA V.

Game developers are constantly chasing the next big release, and catching the zeitgeist of content creators and streamers is a huge part of that - but that's not a problem Rockstar Games can relate to. Grand Theft Auto V has proven its remarkable staying power by dominating Twitch viewership in 2024 - not bad for an 11-year-old game.

According to recent statistics released by the Amazon-owned streaming platform, the 2013 game amassed an incredible 1.4 billion hours watched across all audiences last year. This impressive figure not only secured GTA V's position at the top of Twitch's most-watched games list for another consecutive year but also represented approximately 9% of Twitch's entire gaming viewership for 2024. It's a very remarkable achievement when you consider that this comes more than a decade after the game's original release in 2013.

League of Legends claimed the second spot with 1.19 billion hours watched, making it the only other game to break the billion-hour threshold - incidentally an even older title hailing from 2009. Competitive shooters rounded out the top five, with Valorant (804 million hours), Fortnite (539 million hours), and Call of Duty (451 million hours) following behind.

Earlier this year, we reported that GTA V accumulated over 2 billion hours watched across streaming platforms last year. This means that Twitch holds over 70% of GTA V streaming traffic, which should not come as a surprise given its popularity among gamers. The enduring popularity of GTA V on Twitch can be attributed to several factors.

The game's online component, GTA Online, continues to enjoy massive popularity, especially through role-playing streams that have become a mainstay on the platform. Additionally, the mounting anticipation for GTA 6, which received its first teaser trailer in December 2023, has likely contributed to sustained interest in its predecessor.

Take-Two has already confirmed that GTA 6 will release in Fall 2025 on consoles, and although the exact launch date remains a well-kept secret, the buzz around it is anything but quiet. Developers across the industry are already bracing for impact, predicting the game’s arrival will send waves through the entire entertainment scene, and honestly, if the record-breaking legacy of GTA V is any indication, they’re probably right.
