Roleplaying has helped to keep GTA V fresh enough to secure the top spot in 2024 streaming charts.

__'Grand Theft Auto V ** _achieved something extraordinary in 2024: becoming the most-watched game across all livestreaming platforms, despite being over a decade old. This success, confirmed by analytics firm Stream Hatchet, has proved the game's remarkable staying power and growing influence in the streaming space despite its age.

The Rockstar Games title accumulated over 2 billion hours watched across streaming platforms in 2024, which is a massive 21.3% increase from 2023. To put this in perspective, League of Legends, the second-place contender, reached 1.8 billion hours with a more modest 7.2% growth. Valorant, another major title, secured third place with 1.1 billion hours, but actually saw a 6% decrease in viewership.

December of last year particularly demonstrated GTA V's dominance, with 189 million hours watched, which was a 36.9% jump from November. League of Legends, despite leading for half the year, finished a distant second with 113 million hours.

Twitch played a huge part in hitting this massive viewership. After placing second to League of Legends in both 2022 and 2023, GTA V finally claimed the top spot last year with 1.3 billion hours watched, up from 1.2 billion the previous year.

What makes this achievement especially impressive is that GTA V's streaming success is largely fueled by GTA RP (roleplay) content, which continues to captivate millions of viewers.

This streaming dominance comes at a monumental moment for the franchise, with GTA 6 on the horizon and top streamers like Kai Cenat—2024's most-watched streamer—gearing up for an extensive marathon stream of the upcoming installment.

Interestingly, while PC-based streaming still dominates viewership, GTA V has maintained a strong console presence, consistently ranking third in PlayStation's active player counts according to Circana's weekly reports, though it has been absent from PC's top 15 rankings.

If GTA V has managed to have such a lasting influence on the gaming landscape, we can only imagine the impact GTA 6 will have once it makes its much-anticipated debut later this year.
