Letter Scraps are a set of 50 collectibles in GTA 5 Story Mode. Finding all 50 reconstructs a confession that identifies Leonora Johnson's killer and unlocks Franklin's A Starlet in Vinewood Strangers and Freaks mission.
Leonora Johnson was murdered in 1975, and her body was found beside the Land Act Dam after an anonymous tip to the LSPD. Her killer's confession was addressed to "David Richards," but the letter was torn into 50 pieces and scattered across Los Santos and Blaine County.
Any of the three protagonists can collect the scraps. Listen for the sound of rustling paper when you are close. If you play as Franklin, Chop can also help locate nearby pieces. The final confrontation is available only to Franklin.

You will find this letter piece on top of a container on Buccaneer Way at Terminal.
Letter Scrap #2
The piece is located at Los Santos International Airport. It is on the floor near the entrance to the subway of LSIA Terminal 4 Station on New Empire Way.

The letter is on a dry docked boat on Elysian Island. The boat is called Olifantus. You will find the letter at the front end of the boat.

The scrap is lying on the roof of the Sightings Bar & Restaurant at Los Santos International Airport.

The scrap is in the underground tunnel beneath Popular Street in Cypress Flats.

The scrap is inside a wrecked bus at the car scrapyard in the Murrieta Oil Field, El Burro Heights.

It is on the floor in the backyard of a house located at Grove Street in Davis.

This piece is inside of a trash container in the parking lot of Davis Mega Mall in Davis.

The letter piece is inside of a skate bowl located at Vespucci Beach in San Andreas.

The scrap is on an island in the Pacific Ocean, southeast of the NOOSE Headquarters in the Palomino Highlands.

The piece is in a tunnel of Vespucci Canals under Palomino Avenue located in La Puerta.

The scrap is on the balcony of Pearl's Seafood Restaurant at Del Perro Pier.

The scrap is lying beside the Vespucci Boulevard bridge connecting East Los Santos and Downtown. The bridge is in La Mesa.

The scrap is on the movie set at Backlot City. Go up the stairs at Stage 14 and check the southwestern corner.

The scrap is lying in a pit at the STD Contractors construction site in Alta.

The piece is at the Storm Drain Canals located at Los Santos River.

The scrap is lying beside a statue in the Hill Valley Church cemetery at Pacific Bluffs. Check the small island in the pond.

The scrap is on the half-pipe at the skate park above Hawaiian Snow in Hawick.

The scrap is beside a bench near the juice stand on Arthur's Pass Trails in Vinewood Hills, north of Galileo Park.

You can find this letter piece right outside an abandoned mine shaft located in the hills of Great Chaparral.

You will find this piece inside of a cave at San Chianski Mountain Range near Ron Alternates Wind Farm.

The scrap is behind a large billboard near an abandoned farm in Great Chaparral, on the edge of the Grand Senora Desert.

You will find the piece in the middle of a tank at the construction site at Redwood Lights Track.

It is in the swamp near the river closest to Fort Zancudo at Lago Zancudo.

The piece is under a bridge at Route 68, Zancudo River.

The scrap is lying in the Hill Valley Church graveyard in Great Chaparral.

The scrap is on top of the tallest building at Stoner Cement Works in Harmony. Several ladders lead to the roof.

You will find this piece on top of a large rock located to the southwest of Sandy Shores Airfield, Sandy Shores.

It is inside of an empty swimming pool of an abandoned motel in Sandy Shores.

The scrap is on a clifftop overlooking Cassidy Creek in Raton Canyon.
Letter Scrap #40
The scrap is at the northwestern corner of the Alamo Sea shore, north of a rowboat. You can see the bridge leading toward Mount Chiliad from this spot.

The piece is on the east side of Millars Boat Shop fishery building located in Galilee off Calafia Road on the north shore of the Alamo Sea.
Letter Scrap #42
The scrap is beside the buildings above the Altruist Camp in the Chiliad Mountain State Wilderness. The safest route is to approach from the opposite side of the camp. Altruist members may attack if you enter through the camp itself.
Using a helicopter makes the mountain approach much easier, especially if the camp entrance is still locked.

The piece is inside of a crop tunnel house on Union Grain Farm located in Grapeseed.

The piece is on the east side of El Gordo Lighthouse located at Mount Gordo.

The piece is in between trees in Paleto Forest just north of the Paleto Forest Sawmill.

It is located at the cable car terminal station next to the parachute at Mount Chiliad.

The scrap is on the balcony of a house in Paleto Bay overlooking the beach.

The piece is in the doorway of one of the camps in Dignity Village near Mount Chiliad.

The piece is sitting at the entrance of a public toilet of Procupio Truck Shop located along the Great Ocean Highway in Procopio Beach, Blaine County, San Andreas.
Letter Scrap #50
The final scrap is inside a dilapidated house behind Beeker's Garage in Paleto Bay.
Completed Letter
After collecting all 50 scraps, you can read the reconstructed confession. It reveals that film director Peter Dreyfuss murdered Leonora Johnson.
Confronting the Killer
Collecting the final scrap reveals Peter Dreyfuss' location and unlocks A Starlet in Vinewood, a Strangers and Freaks mission for Franklin. Look for the green question-mark icon on the map.
Before confronting Peter, you can puncture his car's tires to stop him driving away.
Approaching Peter starts a cutscene, after which he tries to escape. You can let him go or kill him.
If you punctured his tires beforehand, he will have to flee on foot. Killing him completes the murder mystery, and an article about the incident later appears on the in-game internet.
You have now completed the Leonora Johnson murder mystery.
