Grove Street is the name of two Los Santos cul-de-sacs in separate GTA continuities. The 3D-universe street in Ganton is the home of the Grove Street Families in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, while the HD-universe street in Davis appears in Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online.123 Both versions are closely associated with Los Santos gang history, but they are not the same place.

Location and layout

In GTA V and GTA Online, Grove Street is in Davis and runs from Davis Avenue to a southeastern cul-de-sac. Rockstar has also described Grove Street as being in the heart of Davis.3 It sits beside the Los Santos Storm Drain and near Maze Bank Arena. The street contains homes, an LTD Gasoline station and the purchasable Grove Street Garage.

The HD-universe street and its GTA San Andreas counterpart share several in-game features:

  • Both terminate in a cul-de-sac.
  • Both sit in gang-controlled areas of Los Santos.
  • Both are close to a major stadium and the city's storm-drain system.

The shared cul-de-sac layout, stadium proximity and storm-drain setting form the clearest visual links between the two versions.

Role in GTA San Andreas and GTA V

In GTA San Andreas, Grove Street is the home territory of the Grove Street Families and a central location in Carl Johnson's story. Rockstar's own retrospectives connect CJ, Big Smoke and the Grove Street Families with Ganton and Grove Street.23

In GTA V, Ballas are regularly present on the HD-universe street. The mission Hood Safari brings Franklin Clinton, Lamar Davis and Trevor Philips to Grove Street. As they approach, three cyclists leave the cul-de-sac in a visual reference to the opening of GTA San Andreas.

GTA Online activities

Grove Street is used by several GTA Online missions and activities:

  • Grove Street Survival: players defend the cul-de-sac against waves of Ballas.4
  • Lowriders: the mission Desperate Times Call For... sends players to attack the Ballas during Lamar's attempt to expand his influence.5
  • After Hours: one Nightclub rescue assignment can send players to Grove Street.6
  • Los Santos Tuners: Inside Man can use a Grove Street hideout during the Prison Contract.7
  • The Contract: Investigation: The Ballas takes place partly on Grove Street.8

Businesses and collectibles

The Grove Street Garage can be purchased by Franklin in GTA V. In GTA Online, the Warehouse Arcade added with the Diamond Casino Heist sits beside the street.

A letter scrap can be found behind a house in the cul-de-sac. An SMG pickup and several modified gang vehicles can also appear nearby.

Trivia

  • Grove Street is one of the named Los Santos streets retained between the 3D and HD universes.
  • The cyclists seen during Hood Safari resemble Carl Johnson and the Grove Street Families riders from the opening of GTA San Andreas.
