Another GTA 6 Delay? Schreier Says May 2026 Date 'Not a Sure Thing'

Jason Schreier, one of the first video game industry experts to correctly predict the original 2025 release window of Grand Theft Auto 6 years before the game was officially confirmed, as well as its eventual delay, believes that GTA 6's new release date still isn't safe. In his latest newsletter sent out on May 9, 2025, Schreier talked about the_GTA 6_delay, mentioning that "there's no guarantee that May 2026 is a sure thing."

May 26, 2026 is a particularly significant date that Rockstar Games picked on purpose. It's the same day the late_Grand Theft Auto: Vice Cityvoice actor, Ray Liotta, passed away. Liotta voiced Tommy Vercetti, one of the most iconicGrand Theft Auto_protagonists. The date is a subtle nod to the contributions of the deceased actor.

May 26 is also the day Bonnie Parker was laid to rest in 1934. Parker is one-half of the infamous Bonnie and Clyde criminal duo, the inspiration for Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval. Delaying_GTA 6_beyond May 26 would ruin the symbolic weight this particular date carries.

Even so, if there's one thing we've learned over the years (aside from the fact that Rockstar is king), it's that Rockstar's priority lies in the quality of its product. It doesn't really care much for other factors, even Take-Two Interactive stock prices dropping because of the delay. If Rockstar believes that_GTA 6_isn't ready by then, then you better believe it will be mercilessly delayed to a later date.

How this will affect the entire video game industry remains unclear. In his newsletter, Schreier mentioned that he's heard talks of video game companies either "praying" that_GTA 6_isn't delayed further or hoping that it's pushed back so they have "an excuse to delay to 2027 and score more time."

"Unprecedented" is the term that Schreier chose to use to describe_GTA 6_and we're inclined to agree.GTA 6_is the follow-up to the most successful entertainment product of all time.Grand Theft Auto V_alone has generated multiple billions in revenue over the past decade for Rockstar._GTA 6_is expected to be even bigger.

Based on the reception of both the first_GTA 6_trailer and the second_GTA 6_trailer, the game will swallow everything its path. Like one industry expert previously mentioned,_GTA 6_will be like a "huge meteor". On the flip side, some believe that_GTA 6_will be an "iceberg" that lifts up all the proverbial boats (unless somebody is the Titanic in this metaphor).

For now, all we can do is to wait for Rockstar and Take-Two to announce more official information. It'll be a long wait between now and May 26, 2026, but we're sure to get a boatload of information over the next several months. After the surprise release of the second_GTA 6_trailer, we'll likely get more official information on May 15 at the next Take-Two earnings call.

In other_GTA_news, it's believed that Rockstar is working on a remaster for_Grand Theft Auto 4that could be released later this year to make up for the_GTA 6 delay.
