Grand Theft Auto V is potentially coming to Xbox's PC Game Pass, following a Rockstar Games Launcher update that added support for the service.

Grand Theft Auto V may soon be making its debut on Xbox's PC Game Pass, months after it was reported that Rockstar Games was planning on bringing the game to the PC-exclusive subscription-based service. Just like before, the news comes from Rockstar insider, Tez2, who claims that the latest Rockstar Games Launcher update added support for the Xbox PC Game Pass app. If true, this would mark the first time that the PC version of GTA 5 would make its way to Microsoft's subscription service.> Twitter

It would make sense for GTA V's arrival on PC Game Pass to happen now. The launch of Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced brought the PC version of the game on par with its console counterparts, which received an upgrade earlier in Grand Theft Auto V Expanded and Enhanced.

Since March 4, PC players have had access to features and content previously available exclusively on next-gen consoles like the Xbox Series S/X and PlayStation 5. In fact, the PC version of GTA V is now the best-looking version of GTA V yet, enjoying graphical upgrades that make the game look a lot like what some assume Grand Theft Auto 6 will look like.

The potential inclusion of GTA V on PC Game Pass raises questions about the financial arrangements behind such a deal. Leaked documents from Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard a few years back revealed that Take-Two Interactive had previously requested between $12 to $15 million per month to include GTA V in the Game Pass library.

Given that games typically remain on the service for around six months, the total cost could range from $72 to $90 million for each cycle. Even though GTA V is now over a decade old, it has only grown in popularity, so the price to secure it and Grand Theft Auto Online couldn't have gone down. While this would require a significant investment on Microsoft's part, the game's massive player base could potentially drive significant growth in PC Game Pass subscriptions, justifying the hefty price tag.

GTA V's relationship with subscription services has been complex and unpredictable. The game has appeared and disappeared from Xbox Game Pass multiple times in the past, often coinciding with major Rockstar announcements or product launches. This pattern suggests that the timing of GTA V's potential PC Game Pass debut could be strategic, possibly hinting at upcoming news about GTA 6, which rumors are saying will get a new trailer in April, even as early as on April 1.

It could just all be a part of Rockstar's recent decision to up its support for GTA V on PC, including the aforementioned free upgrade, adding BattlEye, and even hinting at a possible Discord integration. With over 200 million units sold worldwide, GTA V stands as the second best-selling premium game of all time. Its inclusion in PC Game Pass could introduce the title to a new generation of players while providing longtime fans with a fresh reason to revisit Los Santos.
