The long-awaited Grand Theft Auto 5 Enhanced is now available on PC as a free upgrade via the Rockstar Games Launcher, Steam, and Epic Games Store.

The day has finally arrived! Grand Theft Auto 5 Enhanced is now on PC, available to download via the Rockstar Games Launcher, Steam, and Epic Games Store. The rollout of the upgraded version of the second best selling game of all time has been fairly smooth, save for hiccups on one particular platform.

The free upgrade to the base version of Grand Theft Auto 5 brings a series of graphical enhancements, technical improvements, and an assortment of new features to help PC gamers make the most out of their hardware. Rockstar Games confirmed the update's release on the Newswire just hours after it went live on popular digital games distribution platforms.

The latest (and hopefully last) new GTA 5 edition splits the game into two versions on PC. GTA 5 Enhanced is the new and improved version, and Rockstar renamed the older version as Grand Theft Auto V Legacy. This is done to allow Rockstar to continue supporting those whose hardware can't support the latest updates to the game any longer, giving players a choice to forgo upgrading and leaving everyone happy.

The best part about GTA 5 Enhanced is that it's free - as long as you have an official copy of GTA 5, you can redeem the upgrade. However, there was a slight hiccup with Epic Games Store asking owners to repurchase the game. This issue has since been fixed.

Changes to GTA 5 include support for "higher resolutions, higher aspect ratios, and higher framerates" and the promise of Frame Generation support at a later date. In the meantime, GTA V Enhanced will support AMD FSR and NVIDIA DLSS, faster loading times, PC-exclusive ray tracing features, and a refreshed Landing Page and what Rockstar claims is an "improved introductory flow for newer players" that comes with a nifty GTA$4,000,000 bonus.

In a nutshell, GTA 5 Enhanced is the PC version of Grand Theft Auto Expanded and Enhanced, which added the Career Builder, Hao's Special Works, and GTA+ to Grand Theft Auto Online, among others. But it adds certain and very much welcome extras. This means all contemporary platforms have achieved feature parity. Again.

To further sweeten the deal, Rockstar is making GTA 5 Enhanced available for 50% off on Steam and Epic Games Store through March 20, cutting its retail price down to $15 instead of the usual $30. Paired with the latest freebies for GTA+ subscribers and the Oscar Guzman Flies Again update, there's never been a better time revisit Los Santos, or check it out for the first time.

Grand Theft Auto 5 Enhanced is the fifth edition of Grand Theft Auto 5 after the original release for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC, Grand Theft Auto V: Enhanced Edition for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, Grand Theft Auto V: Expanded and Enhanced for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X, and Grand Theft Auto V Legacy.
