Things just have gone from bad to worse for those who own copies of GTA V from the Epic Games Store.

Grand Theft Auto 5 Enhanced has finally arrived on PC. Not to be confused with Grand Theft Auto V: Enhanced Edition for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, the PC-exclusive update bringing with it a host of improvements and new features that have long been anticipated by the game's massive fanbase. However, the launch hasn't been without its share of complications, particularly for users on the Epic Games Store platform.

For many users, especially those who acquired GTA 5 through the Epic Games Store's previous giveaway, the update was meant to be a free upgrade. Rockstar Games had clearly stated that existing owners would receive a copy at no additional cost. However, the reality of the situation has proven to be more complex and frustrating for many Epic Games Store users - and costly, even.

Ahead of its release on March 4, there was already growing concern that there was a problem with copies of Grand Theft Auto 5, now renamed as Grand Theft Auto 5 Legacy on the Rockstar Games Launcher, redeemed and/or bought from the Epic Games Store. The lack of communication didn't help either, and now the situation has escalated.

The good news is that GTA 5 Enhanced is indeed available on the Epic Games Store. The only problem? Owners can't redeem it. Many players are currently finding themselves unable to access the update, with the Epic Games Store failing to display the Enhanced Edition in their libraries. Instead, the official page is asking them to pay $30 for a copy of the game, as if they don't already own one.

This has been reported by those who redeemed GTA 5 on the Epic Games Store for free and those who purchased it on the digital games distribution platform. On the other hand, Steam and Rockstar Launcher users reported a smoother experience, with pre-load options available and the update appearing promptly in their libraries.

Rockstar Games and Epic have yet to provide a comprehensive statement addressing these concerns, leaving many users in limbo. The lack of clear communication has only exacerbated the situation, with speculation and rumors filling the information void. Considering how close this veers to false advertising, addressing the issue should be a priority.

GTA V Enhanced bringing significant improvements to the game make this hiccup all the worse. Players who have successfully accessed the update report significant visual enhancements and improved performance. The addition of new content, including expanded gameplay options and vehicles, has been well-received by those able to experience it.

With enhanced visuals, including ray tracing support and compatibility with DLSS and FSR technologies, the game is set to look better than ever before. Faster loading times are another welcome addition, addressing a long-standing complaint among players. The update also introduces new in-game content, such as GTA+, The Vinewood Club, Hao's Special Works and a 100-car garage, giving PC players players even more to explore in Los Santos.

If nothing else, GTA 5 Enhanced offers a temporary reprieve for players desperate for more information regarding Grand Theft Auto 6, which may or may not come anytime soon. As Grand Theft Auto fans rally for answers and solutions, all eyes are on Rockstar and Epic to smooth out these bumps and deliver the seamless upgrade experience initially promised.

In other news, Take-Two Interactive announced that Rockstar Games has added a tenth subsidiary in Video Games Deluxe. The former Team Bondi studio will now be part of Rockstar Games as Rockstar Australia.
