Despite its age and a light content update, Grand Theft Auto V continues to defy all expectations, climbing the sales charts yet again.

We've read about GTA 5 outselling games so often it shouldn't be impressive anymore - and yet. Take-Two Interactive remains one of the most successful publishers on the PlayStation 5 over the last quarter, with two games making it on the top 10 best-sellers list on the platform.

The parent company of Rockstar Games, Take-Two owns several other top-billing franchises, including annual fixtures like WWE 2K and NBA 2K. The former, in particular, is one-half of the two games that cracked the said list. No surprises with the other one.

According to a list of the top 10 best-selling games on PS5 between April 6 and July 5 this year, released by Circana Industry Analyst Mat Piscatella on Bluesky, Grand Theft Auto 5 and WWE 2K25 were 9th and 10th, respectively. The 2013 title, in particular, made quite the jump from the 12th spot last quarter. The only other publisher with multiple titles on the list is, ironically, Microsoft, with six.

It's unclear what drove the sales for GTA 5 on the PS5 last quarter, as much of the marketing was largely focused on the release of Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced on PC. At this point it feels like sheer inertia alone keeps the ball rolling.

With PC gamers now able to enjoy Los Santos with the same features, such as GTA+ and Hao's Special Works, initially introduced on PS5 and Xbox Series S/X via Grand Theft Auto V Expanded and Enhanced in March 2022, the second-best-selling video game in the world saw quite a bit of a resurgence on PC.

With that said, it'll be interesting to see if GTA 5 can maintain the momentum in the next quarter or drop out of the top 10 completely. The latest content update for Grand Theft Auto Online, Money Fronts, was relatively light in new additions, perhaps pushed out to keep fans busy following the delay to Grand Theft Auto 6.

Not to mention, Rockstar isn't expected to release a significant update for GTA Online until much later this year when zombies hit Cayo Perico. However, GTA 5 has continued to defy expectations for over a decade, so we can never rule out the possibility that people will flock to the game just because.

Between Grand Theft Auto's staying power and the not-so-secret partnership between Sony and Rockstar, GTA 5 should remain the center of attention, as will the other games in the franchise. Perhaps the better question this time is, how much further can the sales of GTA 5 go before the release of the next installment in the series?

We'll find out more about GTA 5's latest sales numbers when Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick talks to investors on August 7 at the company's next earnings call.
