Sony just gave Grand Theft Auto VI something it usually saves for its own biggest exclusives. At the September 3 State of Play, Sony Interactive Entertainment and Rockstar Games revealed two limited-edition GTA 6 DualSense controllers, a Black and a White, both dressed in Vice City neon and shimmer, arriving alongside the game on November 19.

The two designs split Vice City, giving you a choice between the Black Limited Edition, taking its design cues from the city's neon-lit nightlife, and the White Limited Edition, whose design inspirations are the daytime beaches and pastel skies of real-life Miami Beach.

Both proudly wear their colors, too, with a color-shifting iridescent finish and palm trees molded into the plastic. Each costs $84.99, pre-orders open September 10, and if history is any indication, these will sell out faster than previous custom PS5 controllers.

Everything you need to know about the limited edition GTA 6 controllers.

This is the latest development in one of the shortest and most aggressive marketing campaigns gaming has and will probably ever see until the next Grand Theft Auto or Red Dead Redemption comes out and we have watched nearly every step of it play out in real time. Sony took over the PS5's home screen for pre-orders back in June, Rockstar just slipped a pre-order tile into GTA Online itself, and the Extended Look topped Netflix's global charts with 31 million views. As a result, pre-orders spiked nearly 600% off it, and demand ran so hot it sold out every PS5 Pro in the country.

The controllers are just the next domino falling, and we can't wait to see what else Take-Two Interactive has in store after this appetiser of an opening.

Sony puts out limited DualSense designs fairly regularly, but two full GTA 6 controllers, iridescent finish, molded details, the works, is the kind of effort it tends to save for its own tentpoles. This is a third-party game getting a first-party-sized push. Sony is betting hard that "plays best on PS5" is the line that wins this console generation, and it is doing it right after Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look proved the game can move the kind of numbers that the rest of the industry can't help but notice.

For what it is worth, these are cosmetic. They are standard DualSense controllers with the same haptics and adaptive triggers with no functional edge in GTA 6 over the pad you already own. Of course, as we have already said, this is GTA we're talking about, which means this is a formula every scalper on Earth already understands, and the Black edition, the harder of the two to track down, is the one collectors will fight tooth and nail to have one.

Unfortunately, there are no equivalent GTA 6 Xbox controllers, no matching Series X takeover, no first-party gesture from the other side at all. Sony is treating the biggest launch of the decade like a home game, and it keeps winning the marketing on points.
