The best way to make money in GTA Online depends on your starting cash, crew and preferred pace. With little money, run the Cluckin' Bell Farm Raid or join another player's heist before buying a major property. Once you own a Kosatka, Cayo Perico is the most flexible repeatable solo heist. A regular crew opens the Diamond Casino, Doomsday and Original Heists, while businesses such as the Nightclub, Bunker and Acid Lab keep producing between active jobs.
Weekly bonuses can temporarily make a different activity more profitable, so check the current GTA Online bonuses before settling into a long session. Rockstar's own starter advice also recommends matching businesses to the way you like to play rather than treating one route as mandatory.1
Which GTA Online money route should you choose?
Your situation | Start here | Why it fits |
|---|---|---|
New player with little cash | Cluckin' Bell Farm Raid or another player's heist | Cluckin' Bell can be completed solo or with up to four players and does not require buying a heist property. |
Established solo player | Cayo Perico Heist plus the Acid Lab | Cayo Perico supports solo setup and finale play; the Acid Lab produces stock between active jobs. |
Two-player team | Cayo Perico or the Diamond Casino Heist | A partner opens compound gold on Cayo Perico and every Casino finale approach. |
Reliable four-player crew | Pacific Standard or the Casino Heist | Pacific Standard uses the classic four-player format; Casino offers three approaches and variable vault contents. |
Passive or semi-passive income | Nightclub Warehouse with feeder businesses | Technicians accrue separate warehouse goods while you play other activities, though you still need to manage and sell the stock. |
Best opportunity this week | A payout multiplier or business-sale bonus can temporarily beat the usual rotation. |
Strong starting routes by budget, crew size and preferred play style. Weekly bonuses can change the best choice temporarily.
How GTA Online money-making evolved
GTA Online's economy has changed enormously since 2013. Early jobs, store robberies and street-car sales offered modest starting cash. The Original Heists brought large coordinated payouts, then Executives and Other Criminals and Further Adventures in Finance and Felony established the CEO/VIP system, cargo and supply-store-sell businesses. Biker Businesses, Gunrunning, Smuggler's Run and Nightclubs expanded that model into the network of active and passive businesses available today.6
Heists: High-Risk, High-Reward Ventures
Heists offer some of GTA Online's largest single payouts, but the best one depends on crew size, property costs, preparation time and how the take is divided. Our Best GTA Online Heists for Making Money compares those tradeoffs directly.
Many heists and major mission finales now pay more for the first completion after the weekly reset, then use a lower repeat payout until the next reset.10 The Heist Earnings Calculator and Contact Mission Payout Calculator let you select the correct weekly state.
Original Heists (Fleeca, Prison Break, Humane Labs, Series A, Pacific Standard)
The five Original Heists remain the foundation of GTA Online's crew-heist format. Pacific Standard has the largest payout of the set, but its cash take falls when the player carrying it takes damage. A reliable four-player crew can protect the take by avoiding unnecessary fights after the bike checkpoint and following the four-seat escape route before the final run to the dinghy.
The host controls the players' percentage cuts and pays the planning cost, so agree on the split before the finale. Our Original Heists guide includes a payout distribution guide for each job.
Playing with strangers is less hopeless than its reputation suggests. In one GTA BOOM experiment covering 430 heists with random players, most attempts succeeded. The random-heist guide covers the communication and loadout choices that make pick-up crews easier to manage.
Heist Setups
Joining another player's setup is a useful shorter session when you do not have time for a finale. Original Heist setup payouts were increased in Title Update 1.73, and each setup also teaches one part of the finale without requiring the joining player to own the host property.10
The Cayo Perico Heist
The Cayo Perico Heist remains one of GTA Online's most flexible money-making options because its preparations and finale can be completed solo. Hosting requires a Kosatka, making it a sensible major purchase after a new player has built enough starting capital.3
Key advantages include:
- Solo Capability: Cayo Perico can be completed from setup to finale alone, making it one of the strongest options for solo players.
- Current Targets: Regular Normal-mode primary targets range from GTA$400,000 for Sinsimito Tequila to GTA$910,000 for the Pink Diamond before secondary loot. Hard Mode raises those values to GTA$440,000–GTA$1,001,000. The Panther Statue is reserved for special events.
- Weekly Target Odds: Your first scope-out after the weekly reset has better odds of a Ruby Necklace, Bearer Bonds, or Pink Diamond. Additional scope-outs before the next reset are much more likely to produce Tequila.
- Secondary Loot: Cash, weed, artwork, cocaine and gold can raise the take, but bag space and access restrictions matter. Gold inside the compound normally requires two players.
- Efficiency: Both the setup missions and the finale can be completed quickly with practice.
- Requirement: You need a Kosatka submarine to host the heist.
- Guides and figures: See our current Cayo Perico payout table or calculate a specific run with the Heist Earnings Calculator.
The Kortz Center Heist
The Kortz Center Heist is another full heist that can be completed solo, but its high entry price makes it a late-game option rather than a sensible first purchase.
Key features include:
- Solo or crew: The finale supports 1–4 players. Extra players give the crew more bag space and access to Crisp Gallery, which cannot be opened solo.
- Weekly payouts: The story Primary Target, La Dernière Débauche, pays GTA$1,925,000 on its first sale after the weekly reset and GTA$481,250 on additional sales before the next reset. An additional sale of Consumato before the next reset pays GTA$308,000.
- Cost of additional runs: The first run after the weekly reset has no planning fee. Each additional run before the next reset costs the host GTA$100,000.
- Secondary loot: Paintings and other valuables can increase the take, but bag capacity and the two-player Crisp Gallery restriction determine what a crew can actually carry.
- Requirement: Hosting requires a Mansion and its GTA$4,700,000 Art Studio, so this is best treated as an established-player investment.
- Guides and figures: Start with our Kortz Center Heist hub, check the full payout guide, or model your own run with the Heist Earnings Calculator.
The Diamond Casino Heist
Launched before Cayo Perico, the Diamond Casino Heist remains a strong team money-maker. Hosting requires an Arcade, and the finale requires at least two players.4
Key features include:
- Multiple Approaches: Choose Silent & Sneaky, The Big Con, or Aggressive.
- Current Vault Values: On Normal difficulty, the host's first finale after the weekly reset starts at GTA$2,753,730 for cash, GTA$3,059,700 for artwork, or GTA$3,365,670 for gold. Later finales that week use GTA$1,480,500, GTA$1,645,000, or GTA$1,809,500 respectively. Hard Mode adds 10%. Diamonds are normally limited to special events.
- Gross Take: Those figures are vault totals before support-crew fees, player cuts and any cash lost while escaping.
- Team Focused: Prep can be completed solo, but the finale supports 2–4 players and rewards a coordinated crew.
- Setup Time: The prep work takes longer than the finale, so rotating approaches with a regular crew helps.
- Guides and figures: See the current Casino payout guide or model a run with the Heist Earnings Calculator.
The Doomsday Heist
The Doomsday Heist is a large-scale, three-act operation built around complex, multi-stage missions and a climactic final act. Teams of two to four work with Lester Crest, Avon Hertz and Clifford against a threat to San Andreas.5
- Difficulty: The combat and coordination demands are higher than in the Original Heists or a practiced Cayo Perico route.
- Payout: The Doomsday Scenario has the largest fixed repeat Hard finale payout in our current heist comparison, before the player split.
- Requirement: The host needs a Facility.
- Crew: Each act supports 2–4 players, allowing a capable pair to keep the split between two people.
- Preparation: The three finales follow longer preparation and setup chains than a single Cayo Perico run.
Doomsday is not the simplest route to cash, but its scale, two-player option and demanding finales make it a worthwhile change from repeating the same solo heist.
Business Ventures: Building Criminal Empires
Businesses provide a mix of active sourcing, stock production, sales and safe income. The right combination depends on how often you play, whether you prefer solo sessions and which properties you already own.
CEO/VIP Work & Special Cargo (Finance and Felony)
Owning an Office allows permanent CEO registration and access to Special Cargo Warehouses. VIP registration provides many of the same Freemode jobs without requiring an Office, making it a useful step before buying property.6
- VIP Work: Jobs such as Headhunter and Sightseer fit between longer activities and business cooldowns.
- Special Cargo: Source crates, store them in owned Warehouses and sell accumulated stock. Larger sales put more value at risk but can be protected by associates.
- Warehouse Staff: Staff can source cargo while you run other work, reducing the amount of active sourcing needed.
- Session Choice: Source and Sell missions can be launched in private sessions. The session guide explains the available lobby choices. Public sessions remain optional for players who want the additional demand bonus and accept the risk of other players attacking the cargo.7
- Guide: GTA Online Finance and Felony Guide
Become a Bodyguard
Joining another player's Organization lets you earn a periodic salary plus GTA$ and RP from VIP Work and VIP Challenges without buying an Office. Staying near the VIP also provides health regeneration and other organization benefits.6
Import/Export
Import/Export extends the CEO system and requires an Office plus a Vehicle Warehouse.
- Gameplay: Source vehicles, store them and export them to buyers. Damage creates repair costs and reduces the final return.
- Collections: Selling the requested themed collections with associates adds a collection bonus.
- Crew value: Associates let the Organization sell more than one vehicle in the same export mission.
- Damage control: A Cargobob can move suitable vehicles without exposing them to road traffic, although hostile NPCs and other players can still create risk.
- Special Vehicles: Source missions unlock trade prices for Special Vehicles and their associated work.
- Guide: GTA Online Import/Export Guide
Biker Businesses (MC)
A Motorcycle Clubhouse lets you become an MC President and buy Cocaine, Meth, Counterfeit Cash, Weed and Document Forgery businesses.
- Production: Steal or buy supplies, wait for product to accrue and launch a Sell Mission.
- Business choice: Profit varies by business type. Cocaine, Meth and Counterfeit Cash usually provide more useful returns than Weed or Document Forgery.
- Nightclub integration: Owned Biker businesses can feed separate Nightclub Warehouse categories through assigned technicians.
- Crew size: Large stock sales may use several delivery vehicles, so selling smaller batches is easier alone.
- Session choice: Business computers and Source or Sell missions work in private sessions; the session guide covers the options. Public sales trade extra risk for a demand bonus.7
- Guide: GTA Online Bikers Guide
- Profit tables: Biker Business Profit Chart and Guide
Gunrunning
The Bunker combines passive weapon-stock production with research unlocks.
- Production: Buy or steal supplies and assign staff to manufacturing, research or both.
- Sales: Stock continues building while you run other activities. Larger sales may produce several delivery vehicles.
- Research: Research unlocks Mk II weapon upgrades and specialized vehicle modifications rather than paying cash directly.
- Guide: GTA Online Gunrunning Guide
Hangar (Smuggler's Run)
A Hangar stores and customizes personal aircraft while opening the Air Freight Cargo business. Cargo can be sourced by air or land, with bonuses for selling matching product types. The Smuggler's Run guide covers the cargo categories, sale bonuses and aircraft workshop.7
Overhaul Boost: Initially lackluster, the business was significantly improved by the San Andreas Mercenaries update, boosting payouts and streamlining sales.
Solo Friendly: Source missions can be varied (air and ground). Crucially, full stock can now be sold using a single vehicle, making it highly viable for solo players.
Profitability: Now considered one of the best solo-friendly businesses. Can be incorporated for variety similar to Gunrunning.
Nightclub Integration: Contributes to Nightclub Warehouse passive accrual. Gameplay loop is similar to CEO work.
Guide: GTA Online Hangar Guide - Earn Money With This Solo Business
Nightclub Business (After Hours)
A Nightclub combines club management with a separate underground warehouse.8
- Club Management: Popularity controls the club's daily safe income. Promotion missions and quick management tasks restore popularity.
- Warehouse: Technicians accrue separate goods from owned Cargo or Hangar, Bunker and Biker businesses without consuming those businesses' supplies or stock.
- Technicians: Up to five technicians can be assigned at once, so the most useful warehouse setup draws from five compatible businesses.
- Passive Accrual: Warehouse goods build while you play GTA Online, but the owner still needs to manage storage and complete a Sell Mission.
- Sales: Nightclub stock is delivered in one of the club's customizable delivery vehicles rather than being split across several vehicles.
- Investment: The strongest warehouse setup requires the Nightclub, technicians, upgrades and several feeder businesses, making it an established-player purchase.
- Guide: GTA Online Nightclub Warehouse Management and Profit Guide
Agency (The Contract)
An Agency opens several distinct income streams.
- VIP Contract: The host earns GTA$1,099,800 for the first Don't Fuck With Dre completion after the weekly reset. Additional completions before the next reset pay GTA$900,000. Use the Contact Mission Payout Calculator to compare the two amounts.
- Security Contracts: Short jobs launched from the Agency computer. Completing more Security Contracts raises the Agency safe's daily income.
- Payphone Hits: Assassination jobs with an extra payment for following the requested method. Their short format makes them useful between longer activities.
- Agency Safe: The safe can generate up to GTA$20,000 per in-game day after enough Security Contracts have been completed.
- Guides: GTA Online: The Contract and The Contract: Payphone Hits
Acid Lab (Los Santos Drug Wars)
The Acid Lab operates from the MTL Brickade 6x6 introduced through the Los Santos Drug Wars update and its First Dose missions.9
- Production: Source or buy supplies for Mutt, then boost production once per real-world day.
- Upgrade: Completing ten Fooligan Jobs unlocks the equipment upgrade that improves production and sale value.
- Sales: Acid Lab Sell Missions always use one delivery bike, making full-stock sales manageable alone.
- Session choice: Sell in a private session for safety or a populated public session for the demand bonus.
- Guide: Los Santos Drug Wars and Acid Lab Guide
Contact Missions
Contact Missions are useful early jobs and a good break from business management. Their cash payout rises with mission duration, difficulty and player count, so finishing as quickly as possible does not always produce the highest single payout.10
The tables below preserve the mission-by-mission rank, player limit and Hard-mode RP inventory. Maximum base GTA$ is the mission's base maximum before difficulty, player-count and weekly multipliers; use the Contact Mission Payout Calculator for the amount under your chosen conditions.

Daily Objectives
Daily Objectives offer three rotating tasks and reward players for completing the set. The objectives are most useful when they already overlap with the activities you plan to play; forcing a long or unfamiliar task only for the completion bonus can waste more time than it saves.
Premium Races
Premium Races appear during selected event periods and require an entry fee. They offer a large first-place prize and increased RP, but lower finishes can leave the player with a net loss. Treat them as a skill-based wager, not dependable starting income.
Selling Street Cars
Selling selected street vehicles to Los Santos Customs provides useful early cash between jobs.
- Valuable cars: Look for vehicles such as the Felon GT, Baller, Sentinel and modified Sandking XL. The car locations guide covers rarer spawns.
- Sale price: Stock and modified street vehicles produce different offers, with rare pre-modified spawns worth more than ordinary traffic.
- Cooldown: Los Santos Customs limits how frequently another vehicle can be sold, so street cars work as a supplement rather than a full grind.
Optimizing Earnings: Efficiency and Strategy
The strongest routine usually alternates active work with businesses that continue producing during missions.
Multitasking and Cooldown Management
The core principle is to juggle the cooldowns of various activities to minimize downtime. While one activity's timer is active, switch to another available task. Early Methods: Combined sourcing CEO Crates/Vehicles with VIP Work ("Sightseer", "Hostile Takeover LSIA") during cooldowns, potentially mixing in MC business activities. Terrorbyte Integration: The Benefactor Terrorbyte mobile command center streamlines this by allowing players to launch sourcing missions and unique Client Jobs from anywhere. $250K/Hour Loop Example: Register as CEO/VIP - Start "Headhunter" (VIP Work) - Call Terrorbyte - Start "Diamond Shopping" (Client Job from Terrorbyte terminal) - Start "Sightseer" (VIP Work) - Start "Robbery in Progress" (Client Job from Terrorbyte). Repeat as cooldowns allow. Using a fast vehicle like the Pegassi Oppressor Mk II is recommended for maximum speed.
The two GTA BOOM videos in this section show older rotations built around CEO work and temporary double-money events, including the earlier GTA$500,000-an-hour route. The activities remain playable, but the GTA$250,000 and GTA$500,000 hourly results reflect the bonuses, payouts and strategies available when the videos were recorded. They should not be treated as current guaranteed rates.
The useful principle is still the same: use the downtime after a sale, finale or mission series for a different active job while stock continues building in the background.
- Nightclub synergy: The Nightclub Warehouse accrues separate goods while you run heists, VIP Work, Agency Contracts or other businesses.
- Rotate active work: Move between a repeatable heist or contract and shorter jobs that fit its replay wait rather than standing idle.
- Sell on your terms: Private sessions remove player interference; populated public sessions add a demand bonus but put the cargo at risk.
- Use current owners: Check the relevant payout guide or calculator before building a long routine around a headline figure.
Solo and Private Sessions
Business Source and Sell missions can be launched in private sessions, including Invite Only sessions.7 The solo and private session guide covers the platform-specific choices. Private sessions remove attacks from rival players; public sessions remain available when the extra demand bonus is worth the added risk.
Passive and Semi-Passive Income
Passive income in GTA Online still needs some attention: safes must be emptied, popularity maintained, supplies purchased and stock sold. The advantage is that production continues while you spend the session on active work.
- Nightclub Warehouse: Technicians accrue separate goods from linked businesses, followed by one warehouse Sell Mission.
- Nightclub Safe: Club popularity controls the daily deposit, with the highest popularity producing up to GTA$50,000 per in-game day.
- Bunker and Biker stock: Supplies turn into saleable stock while you run other jobs, but larger sales may require more than one delivery vehicle.
- Acid Lab: Stock production continues between jobs and a full sale always uses one delivery bike.
- Arcade Safe: A fully stocked Arcade floor generates up to GTA$5,000 per in-game day for the office safe.
- Agency Safe: Daily safe income rises as Security Contracts are completed, up to GTA$20,000 per in-game day.
- Money Fronts: The Hands On Car Wash can receive passive income from an established criminal network, while Smoke on the Water and Higgins Helitours boost related business sales.
These safe deposits are useful background income, but they do not replace the larger returns from active finales and business sales.
Minor Income Sources & Tips
- Rob stores: Convenience-store robberies provide quick starting cash while travelling between early jobs.
- Bank carried cash: Deposit cash through Maze Bank when you are carrying a meaningful amount. Most purchases draw directly from the account.
- Collectibles and challenges: One-time collectible rewards and Weekly Challenges can help fund an early property purchase.
Leveraging Weekly Bonuses and Events
Rockstar Games changes GTA Online bonuses and discounts on a regular event schedule.
- Payout multipliers: A doubled or tripled activity can outperform the normal best choice for that event period.
- Business bonuses: Faster production, larger sale values or discounted upgrades can change which property is worth using or buying.
- Weekly Challenge: The challenge often adds a separate GTA$ reward for completing a featured activity.
- Check before buying: A property discount can save more GTA$ than an hour of grinding, but only buy businesses that fit the way you plan to play.
The GTA Online weekly update tracks the live bonuses, discounts, challenge and reset time.
Getting Started
For a new character, build capital before buying a network of expensive properties.
- First cash: Complete the tutorial, use the beginner guides, join other players' jobs and heists, and run the Cluckin' Bell Farm Raid, which supports solo play without a property purchase.2
- First business: The Acid Lab is a practical early business because its missions lead into the Brickade 6x6 and every sale uses one delivery bike.
- First solo heist property: The Kosatka unlocks Cayo Perico. It is a strong goal once you have enough cash to buy the submarine without emptying the account needed for weapons and setup costs.
- Playing with friends: A high-end apartment opens the Original Heists, an Arcade opens the Diamond Casino Heist and a Facility opens Doomsday. Match the property to the number of people who reliably play with you.
- Established account: Add businesses that work together. A Nightclub becomes much more valuable after you own compatible Cargo or Hangar, Bunker and Biker businesses.
- Late-game option: A Mansion and its GTA$4,700,000 Art Studio unlock the Kortz Center Heist, so it belongs after the cheaper routes are already established.
The goal is not to repeat one job forever. Combine an active route you enjoy with businesses that produce between missions, then use weekly bonuses to decide where the next session is best spent.
