Rockstar Games just dropped a surprise on one of its longtime creators. Veteran Grand Theft Auto YouTuber TmarTn posted that the developers of the game sent him an unannounced Grand Theft Auto VI care package, a black box stamped with the Rockstar logo and stuffed with Vice City-themed swag. According to the content creator, he received no email and no heads-up. The package simply showed up at his doorstep via overnight courier.
As expected, the haul leans hard into the game's neon party aesthetic. Inside were a pink-and-blue Rockstar hat, a T-shirt, stickers, an engraved Zippo lighter and a "Greetings from Vice City" canvas bag featuring Macca the Gator and Chunkee the manatee, as well as a "Greetings from Rockstar" card. It is the same Leonida party vibe Rockstar has pushed everywhere lately, including atop the Miami Heat arena.
What was in TmarTn's Rockstar package
Item | Detail |
|---|---|
Rockstar hat | Pink and blue, matching the Vice City palette |
T-shirt and stickers | Standard branded swag |
Engraved Zippo lighter | Rockstar and Vice City detailing |
Canvas bag | "Greetings from Vice City," with Macca the Gator and Chunkee |
Card | A "Greetings from Rockstar" note |
A PR swag box, not a game, not a collector's edition.
Just to clarify, this is creator PR swag. This is not a retail product and definitely not an early copy of the game, not a traditional collector's edition and not the $399.99 Vice City Collection merch box Rockstar put on sale days earlier. TmarTn himself compared the two, since they share the Macca the Gator theme, but his package is a lighter, PR-only gift that money cannot buy.
It's important to make this distinction because of how confusing the GTA 6 merch picture has gotten. Rockstar has no traditional collector's edition, a separate $400 box of merch with no game inside and a physical release that is just a download code in a box. A themed swag box sent to a creator is easy to mistake for one of those, so it's worth clarifying. This one was a gift from the powers that be and not for sale.
With roughly 50 days to launch, Rockstar is in full promotional mode, as promised by Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick earlier this year, which appears to include seeding themed physical swag to established creators, likely generating organic unboxing content at low cost. Similar limited items, including rare neon signs, went to other creators earlier. It reinforces the Vice City and Macca the Gator identity Rockstar is hammering across its store, its ads and now its creator gifts. TmarTn also mentioned Rockstar has hinted at more collectibles on the way.
Simply put, there is a lot of cool GTA 6 merch floating around right now, some of it available at a premium and some of it, like this, exclusive to creators. None of it is the game, which still arrives for everyone at the same time on November 19.
