This is the first time Rockstar Games has brought GTA V to PC Game Pass.

After a long wait, PC players can now experience the enhanced version of one of Rockstar Games' most iconic titles through new platforms. Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced has officially launched on the Microsoft Store and is included with PC Game Pass subscriptions. This upgraded version introduces several technical improvements previously exclusive to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S players. PC gamers can now enjoy advanced visual features, including:

  • Ray-traced shadows and reflections
  • PC-exclusive ray-traced ambient occlusion
  • Global illumination
  • Support for AMD FSR and NVIDIA DLSS technology

The enhanced edition is available as a free upgrade for existing GTA V PC owners across all platforms, including the Rockstar Games Launcher, Steam, and the Epic Games Store. Players can easily transfer their Story Mode progress and GTA Online characters to this improved version. As for GTA Online, the upgrade brings several features that were previously unavailable to PC players, such as:

  • Hao's Special Works: Access to high-performance vehicles and exclusive upgrades
  • Career Progress System: Track achievements and unlock rewards across all GTA Online content updates
  • Career Builder: New players can select from four criminal career paths (Executive, Gunrunner, Nightclub Owner, or Biker) and receive GTA$4,000,000 to kickstart their criminal empire

Additionally, PC players now have the option to subscribe to GTA+, Rockstar's membership service offering exclusive benefits and access to select Rockstar titles, including Bully, Red Dead Redemption, and L.A. Noire. Bringing back GTA V to the Microsoft Store ecosystem comes at an interesting time. With GTA 6 on the horizon, Rockstar appears to be expanding GTA V's availability to as many platforms as possible.

It's very likely that this is a part of a larger marketing strategy ahead of GTA 6's anticipated release. Take-Two Interactive's CEO Strauss Zelnick has stated that GTA V will continue receiving support, though many believe the game's content updates may gradually wind down as development focuses on the next installment.

The PC Game Pass launch may also help smooth relations with PC players who have experienced migration issues and other technical problems in recent updates.
