Grand Theft Auto fans might have something to circle on the calendar early next year because, according to GamesBeat, Rockstar Games plans to release the PC version of Grand Theft Auto VI in the first quarter of 2027. The outlet cites four industry sources familiar with the studio's plans, all speaking anonymously to protect business relationships. A Rockstar representative did not respond to GamesBeat's request for comment.
If the window holds, it would be a fast turnaround by Rockstar's standards. The console version arrives on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S on November 19. A first-quarter 2027 PC release would follow within a few months of that. For comparison, Grand Theft Auto V reached PC in April 2015, about a year and seven months after its September 2013 console debut.
Our earlier coverage flagged datamined signs that Rockstar was building a PC version, after files tied to a Grand Theft Auto Online update pointed to PC work. More recently, Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick called PC "more and more important" to the company at a shareholder meeting without naming a GTA 6 date. At that same meeting, he confirmed the game ships as a single-player experience at launch, with no online mode and no microtransactions on day one.
The PC question arguably matters more for GTA 6 than it did for past games, because of where the series is heading. Online roleplay runs on PC. Rockstar bought Cfx.re, the team behind the FiveM roleplay framework, in August 2023. It has since hired more talent to build GTA 6 multiplayer. FiveM runs only on the PC version of GTA V, so every hour of that existing roleplay happens on PC. A GTA 6 PC release is the groundwork any FiveM-style scene would need.

On the other hand, the next GTA Online itself has no official date. Twitch CEO Dan Clancy told Bloomberg at Tokyo Game Show that GTA 6 online will arrive "next year," which points to 2027. That is a separate and also-unconfirmed window, since Clancy does not speak for Rockstar and his comment does not confirm the reported PC release timing. The studio has yet to announce a new GTA Online launch date as well.

North American dates of PC ports of mainline GTA and Red Dead titles throughout Rockstar Games' history.
A few cautions keep this in perspective. The Q1 2027 window comes from GamesBeat's sources and plans can move. Rockstar has already delayed GTA 6 twice, from a 2025 target to May 2026 and then to November 19. The studio is also known to hold PC versions to the same quality bar as console, so even a Q1 2027 target would ship only when it clears that bar.
For now, the console launch is the only fixed point. Everything after it, PC included, remains a work-in-progress until Rockstar says otherwise.
