The surge in searches for disabling BattlEye in GTA V suggests the decade-old game remains wildly popular.

It's safe to say that Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced is a success for Rockstar Games. Take-Two Interactive hasn't released official numbers yet and we likely won't find out how the game's doing until May, but we're already seeing signs that both companies are going to be happy with the numbers and free press the free upgrade is and has been putting up since it was released on March 4.

Aside from the encouraging Steam numbers, the release of GTA 5 Enhanced has led to Grand Theft Auto V and BattlEye to trend on Google.

As pointed out by @dineshrockie on X, the term "how to disable battleye gta 5" is trending in the United States. If you check it out yourself, it's one of the fastest-rising search queries in the United States, just right below "how to disable apple intelligence" at third and "how to disable recall windows 11" in fifth place.

Rockstar introduced BattlEye last year to GTA V and Grand Theft Auto Online as part of its latest attempt to protect the integrity of one of the most popular games of all time. Unfortunately, while it has banned plenty of cheaters and discouraged cheat makers from continuing operations, it has also resulted in false bans and the still-ongoing lack of support for the Linux operating system. So it's understandable why some players would like to remove it, or at least, get the option to disable the anti-cheat system in GTA 5.

How to Disable BattlEye in GTA 5

If you're one of those looking for a way to disable BattlEye in GTA 5, we do have good news for you. It's possible, but there's a caveat.

To disable BattlEye in GTA 5 or GTA Online, all you have to do is to open the Rockstar Games Launcher, go to "Settings" over on the top-right corner of the window, and uncheck the BattlEye box.

If you're on Steam, the process takes a few more steps. You'll have to right-click on GTA 5 on your Steam library and navigate your way to "Properties." Once you're there, write -nobattleye in the Launch Options box. The steps remain the same if your copy is on the Epic Games Launcher, except that you'll find the Launch options box on "Manage".

After you follow these steps, you should be able to run GTA 5 with BattlEye disabled and enjoy your favorite mods and cheats. However, this only works in single-player mode. You'll have to backtrack the steps and enable BattlEye if you want to play GTA Online.

So far, there isn't a known workaround to disabling BattlEye in GTA Online ( and if there were it would entirely defeat its purpose).

With that said, the rising number of people wanting to disable BattlEye in GTA Online all but confirms that there's a lot of people playing the game right now, which isn't half-bad considering the game's age. Rockstar isn't expected to give players the option to disable BattlEye in GTA Online. If anything, Take-Two's recent actions against cheatmakers and shady marketplaces confirms that they'll take things a step further in Grand Theft Auto 6.
