While the rest of the world continues to wait on Rockstar Games to finally release Grand Theft Auto 6, it appears folks over in Brazil have had the privilege of playing the game early. As a matter of fact, the game has been out in the South American country for so long that it's been available to play on the PlayStation 2.

As much as we would like to say that this is a joke, it isn't. At least, not entirely. GTA 6 has been available to play on PS2s in Brazil since at least 2017 - of course, it isn't actually the real GTA 6. In-game photos and real-life photos of the game using the official artwork for GTA 6 popped up on X over the weekend from folks who claim to have found the bootleg copy in Brazil.

Upon further investigation, it appears that this isn't the first time the same has appeared on local markets. As a matter fact, this copy of GTA 6 has been going around since at least last year, which is right around the same time we the first trailer for_GTA 6_ and confirmation of the name of one of the game's protagonists, Lucia Caminos.

A not-so-quick Google search reveals that the PS2 title is a modded copy of_Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas_and many commenters have confirmed that the group behind the mods have been doing it for years, updating the now-defunct_Pro Evolution Soccer_series with the latest teams and rosters.

If it's any consolation, we're already less than a year away from the release of_GTA 6_. Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick confirmed earlier this year that the game is still on track for a fall 2025 launch.Borderlands 4's release date reveal further narrowed when we can expect to get our hands on the upcoming_Grand Theft Auto_title.

So while you can't really play_GTA 6_on PS2 or any console at all, you won't have to wait for too long to get a chance to enjoy it on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X. As for a PC version, that's likely still a ways away, but it is in active development, as revealed by a leak late last year.

After a rough launch that led to some bad blood between Rockstar and Grove Street Games, former Team Bondi developers, Video Games Deluxe, has since fixed up the bundle to run exactly how you'd imagine it would on modern platforms.
