Jynxzi, one of the larger streamers on Twitch, ran a marathon he was not allowed to end until he finished Grand Theft Auto V. Roughly 48 hours later, with the on-screen timer sitting a little past the 48-hour mark, the credits finally rolled and he was released from his own challenge. His verdict? Unsurprisingly, a 10 out of 10. However, the most interesting part isn't the scare. Rather, it's the specific way he described the game.

Jynxzi's GTA 5 Marathon Verdict

AspectHis Take
Overall rating
10 out of 10
Grand Theft Auto V
Funnier and faster paced
Red Dead Redemption
Slower paced but more emotional
Time to finish
Around 48 hours and 25 minutes of marathon play

The streamer's closing thoughts after completing Grand Theft Auto V's story in a roughly 48-hour marathon.

First things first though. In 2026, a major streamer built a two-day event around finishing the campaign of a game that came out in 2013 with tens of thousands of people tuning in to watch. Most games are forgotten within a year or two. GTA V is three console generations old right now. This game just refuses to die.

With that said, Jynxzi accidentally described the central question about Grand Theft Auto VI after finishing the game. He said GTA V is the faster and funnier game, Red Dead Redemption is slower but more emotional, which is a spot on comparison and describes two genuinely approaches Rockstar Games has taken to storytelling.

Two Different Rockstar Approaches

ElementThe GTA ApproachThe Red Dead Approach
Pace
Fast, punchy, always moving
Slow, deliberate, room to breathe
Tone
Satirical, comedic, chaotic
Sombre, character-driven, weighty
What it wants from you
To be entertained
To feel something
The risk
Story can feel thin under the jokes
Pace can feel like a slog

The broad tonal difference between Rockstar's two biggest series, as Jynxzi's comment describes it.

Everything shown of the next Grand Theft Auto so far suggests Rockstar is trying to do fast and funny chaos as well as slower with heavier emotional weight. The first and second trailers lean on the relationship between Jason and Lucia, which reads as more emotionally serious than the three-way chaos brought on by Michael de Santa, Trevor Philips, and Franklin Clinton in Los Santos while still carrying the neon, satirical tone the franchise is known for.

Those two modes can undercut each other. The comedy in GTA V works partly because the game never asks you to take it too seriously. The emotion in Red Dead Redemption 2 works partly because it does. Try to do both, all the while remaining a parody of real life, a task that has become more impossible to do by the day, and you risk a story where the jokes puncture the feelings and the feelings slow down the fun.

Plenty of games have tried to be hilarious and moving at once and ended up being neither. It is genuinely one of the hardest things to pull off.

The good news is that Rockstar is one of the few studios with the craft to actually thread that needle, even without one of its co-founders, Dan Houser. If anyone can make you laugh and then gut you an hour later, it is Rockstar North and the rest of the studios.

Hopefully, by November, Jynzxi, like all of us, will be playing through Vice City and telling us what he thinks of his Leonida adventure.
