Vice Beach is a recurring name for Vice City's oceanfront across the 2D- and 3D-universe games. Grand Theft Auto VI returns to a modern Vice City beachfront in the HD Universe.
Description
In the original Grand Theft Auto, Vice Beach is a named neighborhood in the 2D-universe version of Vice City. Its map includes a police station, a military base and a walkway along the shore.
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories use a separate 3D-universe version of the city. Their eastern island is commonly described as Vice City Beach and includes Ocean Beach, Washington Beach and Vice Point. Rockstar's tourist-board manual highlights the beaches and Ocean Drive, while its game page describes Vice City as stretching from the beach to the swamps. 1 2
The same island returns in Vice City Stories, set in 1984 while the city is still expanding. Construction sites and unfinished landmarks distinguish it from the 1986 version, but its beachfront, hotels and long eastern shoreline remain recognizable. 3
Grand Theft Auto VI introduces another version of Vice City in the HD universe. Vice Beach is a wide, crowded stretch of sand backed by hotels, palms, lifeguard huts and the city skyline. 4 It lies north of the Leonida Keys.5
Across the series, the long beach, oceanfront hotels, palms and Art Deco architecture closely resemble Miami Beach. The games rearrange those features to suit each version of Vice City rather than reproducing the real coastline exactly.
