Vice City

Vice City, known also as City of Vice, Vice, and V.C. is a fictional city located in the state of Florida (2D, 3D universe) or the state of Leonida (HD Universe) in the United States of America.

It first appears in the 1997 video game Grand Theft Auto and returns as the primary setting of the eponymous Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. Vice City will also appear in the upcoming Grand Theft Auto VI as presumably the largest urban area on the game map.

Description

In each of its appearances throughout the games, Vice City has been a fictionalized approximation of the real world city of Miami, Florida, drawing inspiration aesthetically, architecturally and in terms of layout and mapping from the location.

Some of the most recognizable features of Vice City are its skyline, beaches and burgeoning cocaine trade.

History

2D Universe

Known for having the highest homicide rate in 1997, as well as the least respected police department and highest rate of drug related crime, Vice City had a poor reputation and a great deal of violence and corruption. Major drug dealers operating in other cities like Los Santos would have business ties to Vice City. Much of the city's drug trade was controlled by a gang called the Brotherhood of Jah Army of Love.

3D Universe

Throughout the 80's, Vice City is known for being a cocaine trading hot spot with rich drug dealers waging gang wars against each other. During and after 1984, army veteran Victor Vance operates in Vice City together with his brother Lance Vance, and the two become involved with organized crime. They become associated with the Forelli crime family, culminating in a deal that goes south leaving multiple representatives of both factions dead, but Lance and Tommy Vercetti escape. The latter goes on to achieve dominance on the organized crime scene in Vice City.

HD Universe

Vice City is briefly mentioned throughout Grand Theft Auto IV, Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City, Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars, Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online.

The main source of information about the HD Universe version of Vice City and its history will be the upcoming 2026 video game Grand Theft Auto VI. At some point in the modern day, criminals called Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval commit a number of crimes throughout Vice City and the state of Leonida and affect the course of history in the region.

• Vice Beach: One of the main islands comprising the city, featuring a police station, military base, and a scenic walkway along the shore. Known for its relaxed atmosphere and accessibility early in the game’s storyline.
• Downtown Vice City: Characterized by high-rise buildings, neon signage, and the city’s commercial heart.
• Vice-Dale County: The larger county encompassing Vice City.
