A Reddit post doing the rounds claims there is a clever loophole in Grand Theft Auto VI pre-orders that could net you several free months of GTA+, except, when you take a closer look, Rockstar Games will never let this happen and had already prepared for something like this.
For anyone who does not know what GTA+ even is, it is a monthly subscription for Grand Theft Auto Online, costing around $7.99 or the local equivalent per month. It hands out in-game money, discounts, and access to a library of older Rockstar titles. Digital pre-orders of GTA 6 come with one free month of it that, unfortunately, auto-renews if you aren't aware.
The Reddit poster's theory was that if one pre-order gives you one free month, then cancelling and re-ordering repeatedly should give you a fresh month each time, potentially four of them before the November launch, which they cheerfully calculated as around €31.96 in Germany.
It is a fun idea. It is also dead on arrival. The offer terms are explicit. The GTA+ subscription bonus only works once per account, regardless of additional purchases. It does not matter how many times you pre-order, cancel and re-order, because the account can only ever redeem the free month a single time. The loophole assumes the free month is triggered by each purchase, when it is actually gated by your account having never claimed it before.
So the whole scheme collapses at the first repeat. There is no stack of free months. Even setting the rules aside, we would gently point out that the risk-reward here is terrible.
The Claimed GTA 6 Pre-Order Loophole
Step | The Claim | The Reality |
|---|---|---|
Pre-order the Ultimate Edition | Triggers one free month of GTA+ | The free month is tied to digital pre-orders |
Cancel the pre-order | Frees up your money again | You can cancel and refund a pre-order, yes |
Re-order next month | A new pre-order triggers another free month | This is where it falls apart |
Repeat until launch | Stack up to four free months | The offer is one per account, so it does not stack |
The steps described in the viral Reddit post, and the reality of each.
Every digital pre-order also locks in the Vintage Vice City Pack, which requires ordering before November 20. Cancelling your pre-order to chase a free month that will not materialise puts a bonus you actually get at risk for one you do not, and the payoff, even if it worked, was less than a week's worth of lunches spread across four months of fiddling with cancellations.
However, the reason this post got traction isn't something we should just ignore. People correctly sense GTA+ is set up to extract money from them, and they are looking for ways to push back.
Unfortunately, the only way to fight against it right now is to stop subscribing or to claim your free GTA+ month when you actually play GTA Online then immediately turn it off after so it doesn't start charging you.
As much as there are ways to get GTA 6 cheap, like in France, or for free, the best way to go about this isn't finding a magic loophole, but to read the actual terms, what only what is genuinely free, and switch off the things designed to charge you later. It's boring and unglamorous, but it's also considerably more effective than cancelling your pre-order four times.
