Every Legit Way to Get GTA 6 for Free or Cheaper Before Launch

Grand Theft Auto VI costs $79.99, unless you know what you're doing. There are several legitimate ways to pay far less than that, including one that costs nothing. Some take patience, some take a friend or an intimate partner, and some just take knowing where to look.

Let us walk you through every real option, sort the genuinely free from the merely cheap, and flag the scams you will absolutely run into as the launch date nears, because "free GTA 6" is about to become one of the most dangerous search terms on the internet.

This is a long one, because there is a lot of ground to cover and the details are where people get burned. Take what applies to you and skip the rest.

The GTA BOOM Giveaway

Let me start with the most honest answer to "how do I get GTA 6 for free," because it is also the simplest. We are giving away a full copy of GTA 6 Ultimate Edition in every draw between now and launch on November 19. The prize is digital and available for PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S, matched to a supported account region so the winner receives a code they can actually redeem.

Here is how it works. Use your email on the giveaway page, then complete at least one qualifying action during that draw's window: an approved comment on an article, a server review, or a question or answer on one of our guides. That gives you one entry. The winner is a flat, random pick from everyone who qualified. Commenting ten times does not improve your odds over commenting once.

Winners go on the permanent giveaway page, so you can see every completed draw. When you claim, you tell us whether you play on PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S and which supported account region you use, so we can send a code that matches. You also choose how you appear publicly: first name, username, or fully anonymous.

Microsoft Rewards is a loyalty program that gives you points for doing things in Microsoft's ecosystem, Bing searches, small daily quizzes and quests, and Xbox purchases. Those points convert into Xbox gift card credit, which you can put toward a GTA 6 pre-order. People have genuinely pre-ordered GTA 6 for free this way, covering the whole cost with banked points.

The way that the math works is pretty simple, too. The GTA 6 Standard runs around 80,000 points and the Ultimate around 100,000 points in Xbox credit. If you earn somewhere between 5,000 and 7,000 points a month, which is a realistic pace for someone doing the daily activities consistently, you are looking at roughly 12 to 18 months of grinding to bank enough for a full copy.

The Reddit users who have focused on stockpiling points since GTA 6 was announced now have enough. If you start today, you will not have enough by November.

If you insist though, all you have to do is sign up at the Microsoft Rewards site, install the Bing app, do the daily quests, earn bonus points on any Xbox purchases you were making anyway, then redeem your points for an Xbox gift card and apply it to your pre-order.

Unfortunately, but obviously, this is Xbox only. It does not work for PlayStation pre-orders, which matters given how heavily GTA 6 demand is tilting toward PS5 and how much more expensive the Xbox will be by the time GTA 6 comes out.

Console Sharing

Another option is to share it with a friend you trust. On both PlayStation and Xbox, you can share one digital purchase between two accounts on two consoles, so two people split the cost of a single copy.

On PS5, the person buying the game enables Console Sharing and Offline Play for their account on the console the other player will use. That player uses their own account to play the purchaser's downloaded game. The purchaser can play on their other PS5 while signed into the purchasing account. This setting is available on one PS5 at a time; it is not called a primary PS5.

On Xbox, the purchaser designates the shared console as their Home Xbox. Other accounts there can use the purchased game without the buyer remaining signed in. On another Xbox, the buyer needs to be signed in and connected to the internet. Split the purchase down the middle and Standard works out to roughly $40 each, or Ultimate to $50 each.

The catch is that you are sharing access to the purchaser's digital library, not buying two separately owned copies. Use the platform's sharing settings with someone you trust, keep your login details private, and remember that changing the designated console can remove their access. Account-specific rewards and consumable items are not necessarily shared with the game.

You do not need an online-multiplayer subscription just to play the single-player game. Selected PlayStation Plus benefits, including online multiplayer, can be shared on the enabled PS5. Xbox also has Home-console sharing rules for games and subscription benefits. That does not establish the requirements for a future GTA 6 Online, which Rockstar has not detailed.

Since the physical copy is just a code in a box with no disc, this remains a digital-purchase sharing method rather than lending a disc.

Different Countries Different Prices

Prices for GTA 6 varied by country at the June 2026 pre-order launch. In our June 2026 country-price snapshot, the controversial Ultimate Edition in South Korea, Japan and India converted to less than the US Standard price of $80. Those are historical local prices and approximate USD conversions, not a promise about today's checkout prices.

Is there some risk involved? A lot, actually. If you already live in one of these cheaper regions, this is simply the price you pay. We can't say the same if you're trying to game the system. Changing your account region and pretending you're from another country may violate the platform's terms of service, and getting it wrong can cause payment issues and get your account banned.

It should already go without saying, but we don't recommend risking your main account with years of purchases on it just to save yourself $30.

Trade-Ins

If you want to knock the price down without any of the above, there is the old-fashioned route of trading in stuff you already own. GameStop takes old games, consoles, and phones for store credit you can put toward a GTA 6 pre-order, and it periodically runs promos with extra trade credit on consoles. If you have a pile of games you are done with, converting them into GTA 6 credit is a clean way to pay less out of pocket.

Stacking store rewards works too. One player famously got their GTA 6 pre-order down to about $2 by cashing in accumulated store card rewards, and the same idea applies to any loyalty program you already use. The key phrase there is "already use." These tricks work when you redirect points or credit you've already earned. They stop being deals the moment you start spending money you would not have spent just to chase them.

There are also retailer giveaways popping up as launch nears. A Norwegian retailer is already giving away free GTA 6 copies, but there's a real catch here. These promotions are real, but they usually come with conditions, so read the fine print rather than assuming "free" means free.

Beware of Scams

Here is the warning that matters most as launch approaches. "Free GTA 6" is going to be one of the most searched and most abused phrases on the internet in the coming months, and the overwhelming majority of results promising a free GTA 6 copy are out to scam you. Fake giveaway sites, phishing pages asking for your account login, "generators" that ask you to complete a survey or enter payment details, and sketchy code sellers. They're all going to flood every platform.

The rules for staying safe are simple. No legitimate giveaway will ever ask for your account password. No real free-game offer requires your credit card details to claim. If a site wants you to complete endless surveys or download something to "unlock" your free copy, it is harvesting your data or worse, and if an offer looks too good to be true, like a stranger DMing you a free Ultimate Edition out of nowhere, it almost always is.

The genuinely legit routes are the ones on this list. Everything else deserves suspicion.
